The customer had purchased the vehicle recently from a car dealer which supplied a warranty. She had brought the vehicle to us with an original complaint about sputtering and rattling on start up and no power on hills. We scanned the vehicle and checked it out. There were a lot of emission codes and the timing chain was rattling on start up. The warranty company did not cover any of the emission items and had to check in regards to the timing chain. At that time there was some problem with the warranty policy not being processed yet and they had to sort that out. We did the emission repairs. The vehicle came back later for the timing chain repair which the warranty company authorized, the customer would be paying for diagnostics, a deductible and any fluids plus taxes. When the timing replacement job was started and things opened up, there were more items that needed replacing. There was no extra cost to the customer, it was the warranty company that was to pay for the extra items.

The vehicle is in at the moment now because it was towed in not running. We check it out and it appeared the timing might have jumped. We removed the cylinder head and repaired it. We noticed that one of the camshafts were damaged and replaced that as well. When the we got the vehicle running, there was some rattling, which turned out to be the high pressure injection pump. Probably the cause of the last timing issue. The customer has declined to replace the high pressure. The vehicle is ready at the present time. If there is future failure due to the high pressure injection pump there will be no warranty.

      Thx,

      Al
