Last year (2023) we had four windows installed at our house. The house is a 1950’s war home for reference. The deliverables and installation all occurred in the timeframe that was noted. Unfortunately, that is where the positives came to a close. The window that was added in our homes’ dining room has a screen that blows out the moment there is a strong gust. The second floor windows were left without trim as the installers weren’t willing or capable of repairing the existing wall damage that was present during the initial site walkthrough. I did receive a discount for this but were I not a handy person I doubt the cost would have been enough to hire a finishing carpenter to install the trim. The first rainfall after install resulted in a deluge of water coming through one of our windows. They returned and said ‘they forgot to caulk part of the window’. There was no discussion about repairs for the drywall that was damaged as a result of the water intrusion. Perhaps the most disappointing thing about the new windows is that the second floor windows do not close properly. The frame and/or window is installed crooked/twisted. When going to latch, no matter how much the crank is turned, the window will not catch on the top. In order to close the window you have to remove the screen, reach out and twist the window. When we initially sighted this concern it was left with a comment about the house being old (as most houses in Winnipeg are) and a comment about it fixing itself over winter. This has not been the case. I remain very disappointed that what should have been a worthwhile investment into our home has turned into a work project and a constant reminder of the issues we have now been left with.Hi-Tech Energy Windows Ltd Response

Hi Candice, In February 2021, removed & re-installed one window. At the time of installation, we informed the homeowner that there was a pre-existing water leak from above the window (on the back side of the dry wall), an issue that existed before our window installation. The pre-existing water infiltration (above the window) may have been due to the ice damming on the homeowner's roof. The window was re-installed, and our team informed the homeowner to contact us directly if they had any other issues. We have not received any correspondence from this homeowner regarding any issues with their windows. We stand behind our warranty for our windows and installation work. Please contact our Operations Manager, Sean at ***** ******** to address this accordinglyCustomer Response

***** ***** *** yes, your installers had to reinstall my dining room window, which did not have water damage prior to replacement. When the installers repaired, they still refused to replace the drip edge, so we had that completed on our own. We tried to have it completed by your installers but they refused, and when contacting our salesperson and your reception, they also refused to correct. The uploaded video is of my living room window, which also didn’t have damage prior to installation of new window. Both windows had the old drip edge cut off by the installers, and no new drip edge replaced by installers. As I said in my review, I’ve already had the leaks fixed and new drip edges installed. *** ***** ** ***** ** **** ********** **** ******* ****** **** *** ***** **** *** *** ************** ********* * ***** *** ***** ** ** *** *** ****** *** ** **** **** ************* *** * **** **** **** ** *** ******* ***** **** ********** ***** **** ******** *** **** ***** **** ******** **** ****** ***** ***** *** ***** *** **** **** ******* ** ** ** **** ****** ********** ** ****** ************ *** **** ******** ********Review from Lily W

Door put in backwards since Sept 2022. Getting excuse after excuse. Still waiting. I was told the door was ready to be painted. Said the exhaust wasn't working 2 weeks ago. Phoned him 8 times already. Then got told the door ************ disappeared. Stu the owner is getting rude. Can't get anywhere trying to get this door. The door not a standard door. Its only 30 inches which makes me wonder how can a door like this just disappear. Stu didn't notice this is a garage door that swings inside the garage not outside. I had the old door for 35 years and I fear I'm not getting this wrong door fixed at all. I keep phoning for this door and all I get is the run around since I already paid for it after the work was done. Told him the same day its in wrong. He told me I now have to wait till spring to get the door fixed. Thats 7 months already. I don't think I have any hope getting this resolved.Review from Cal R

We decided to get Hi-Tech Energy Windows and Doors to replace our exterior door (this was February 2021). The door was installed June 15, 2021. At install time I was told they could not use my existing storm door, so we purchased one from them and they installed it. On November 17, 2021 it was windy and I could hear a noise at the door. When I went to check it out I noticed the Pneumatic closer on the storm door had ripped away from the frame leaving a big hole and the screws Hi-Tech had used to fasten it were only about ¼" long so they only penetrated the door casing only (not into the frame of the house) causing the damage. I sent pictures to them the next day and was told "We will be getting a plate made to go over that piece and then the storm door can screw into that. We will paint the plate white to match the frame. The plate will cover the whole broken area, that's why I want (employee) to come out and take measurements just to make sure we get the right size and just for him to go and have a look to see if there could be another option to possibly do, but if not, the plate is the suggestion my manager said". They came out to assess the damage on December 2nd. From January to May 2022, I tried to get an answer as to when they were coming to do the repair. I was given the runaround and finally in April I was told "product is ordered and he just needs to get it powder coated". They finally came out June 8, 2022 to do the repair. They had put a metal patch over the hole, and it didn't even cover the whole hole. That night I sent them an e-mail with the pictures of the repair with the message Letting them know we weren't happy and we want this to look like the new door it is and not something we got second hand. On July 27th 2022 I sent my last e-mail to Hi-Tech. So here we are in August 18 and no reply from anyone at HiTech . In total trying to get this repair done has encompassed 43 e-mails and I have had enough! I am going to do the repair myself !Hi-Tech Energy Windows Ltd Response

Hello Cal, the storm door that was installed was installed with the hardware and screws supplied by the manufacturer of the storm door. If the storm door was not properly closed it is possible for high winds to do damage to the storm door and existing door frame. This is not a warranty issue, it is more of an insurance claim. It was discussed with the customer that we could put a steel plate on the door frame to make the door operational but there is no way to make the door look like new. This plate was made and installed at no charge to the customer. To make a permanent fix the whole door system would need to be taken out and have the damaged door frame replace at the Hi-Tech manufacturing plant and then reinstalled into the customer's home. There would be a charge for this work to be done. This is standard practice in our industry.Review from Keith V

We had both our doors installed in our house last fall. It was supposed to be done in the spring, but due to Covid there were delays in getting the product. Tom was excellent in keeping in touch on delivery, but I deal with the same issues every day so this was no surprise what so ever. The service team was very professional & my wife was updated as they went along. There were a few minor issues, but that's to be expected in older houses. Tom explained how much better & what to expect of the new doors and we really noticed the difference in the -40' weather. We never have to deal with drafts & ice build ups anymore, not to mention the money saved in heating costs. We had all our windows replaced 5 years ago by Hi-Tech as well and all went awesome then too, Thanks to Tom & the whole team we had an excellent outcome, We would recommend Hi-Tech for any window & door projects.
