They did trigger a review of past taxes but I never replied to the emails that were supposed to be confirmations to continue. Therefore I felt I had let them know I did not want them to continue, especially when I found out how much they charge. So much for helping the disabled and their families.

I recently got involved with CBA because I made a request to them for their help. This is the second time I have used them and I was very satisfied with their services. Sure they charge 33% but if I hadn't used their services I would of had zero refund. Example: if I was getting a refund of $1,000. less 33% that they charge, would leave me with $660. An amount that I would not had have if I did not reach out to them. Pretty good deal, I say.

Hi *********, I hope all is well. We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with our service. We checked your file and saw that you had applied for yourself , and mentioned your brother as a supporter. We do a full assessment to maximize the refunds for the whole family. We were not able to fully assess your file as your recent taxes have not been filed, so we reached out to you for that information (we called several times with no response). At the same time, we did find refunds your brother was able to claim, so we called to inform him and to remind him of our fees (since they are already mentioned in the contracts that the both of you signed). We were told that you wanted to then close the file, so we respected your wish. We do not hide any information from our clients. All the information regarding our fee can be found on the agreement that you signed. Please feel free to give us a call should you have any further concerns. Thank you.

Hi *******, I hope all is well. We see that you joined your brother's application as a supporter (he listed you as someone who has helped him over the years with his disability). We work to maximize refunds for the disabled, as well as for family members who have provided support. We notified you that we had done as assessment and that you qualified for non-taxable refunds, but you asked us not to proceed and to close the account, which we did. Your file has been closed with us. No calls from you have been blocked. You are more than welcome to give us a call should you have any other concerns. However, we did give you a call to notify you about the refunds and fees and to ask you if you were interested in proceeding, which you said no to. We respected your wishes and closed the file. ** ** *** **** ******. The information is always presented before we proceed, and it is all found in the contract with you did sign. Again, please feel free to reach out to us should you have anything more you would like to inquire about. Thank you.

      Hi,

I understand your frustration. Canada Revenue is holding your refund as you have outstanding GST/HST returns which have not been filed. As soon as you file that, they will issue the refund into your account.

My boyfriend requested info from the CBA. They called him. Incessantly. Daily, multiple times util he called them back. They did NOT provide info but asked for names of every close relative he has and everybody he lives with (myself, my kids who are NOT biologically his, his parents, his siblings...) They sent a form for him to have me complete and tried to encourage me to complete it while they were on the phone which I did NOT do, while still not giving us any detailed info about their "company". I stress that THIS is where the communication ended. I was not comfortable with their invasive questions and we did NOT submit any information, forms, or agreements. However today I get an email from the Canada Revenue Agency advising me that my Authorized Representative has been changed to the Canadian Benefits Association. This was done without my knowledge or consent.

It is HIGHLY alarming that this third party company was able to access my CRA account, gain access to all of my personal info, and put themselves in charge of my account without my consent or knowledge. I did NOT sign anything. I wasn't even the person who spoke to them on the phone!!

This is unacceptable on every level. ******************************************************

      02/03/2022

I am sorry for your bad experience. Please know that we are not able to become your authorized representatives unless you (or someone who knows your SIN) completes and signs a form including your SIN and full legal name.

Please reach out to me at ************** ext. *** as I would love to clarify and give you the explanation and information you were asking for.

      Customer Response

      02/03/2022

Kindly provide me a copy of the form that was supposedly signed. We did not sign a single thing. There was only a telephone call, and no written exchange of information aside from the initial request for information regarding your advertisement. Nothing was submitted or signed by us consenting to a single thing. So you are operating under false pretense, providing false information, and forging signatures if you have any such document in your possession.

Also, you should not be taking a SIN from a third party under any circumstances. I believe that's illegal unless there is express consent supplied by the owner of the SIN, or there is a situation of legal guardianship, or somebody is formally in charge of handling ones decisions, such as a case of an infirm or severely disabled who is incapable of handling their own affairs. *************************************************************** *****************************************************

      Customer Response

      02/03/2022

I believe specifically you are in breach of PIPEDA, which outlines that you must obtain meaningful consent to acquire personally identifying information such as a SIN. Since we signed no documents, then you have either forged or fabricated the claim that we did. If you obtained my SIN from a third party and then used it to access my personal government accounts, you have breached the privacy act.

As a "law firm" you should be well aware of PIPEDA, and one would think you would be closely following its guidelines. Apparently you bank on people not knowing their rights.

      Disability Benefits Plus Response

      07/03/2022

      Hello,

We are an accounting firm, not a law firm.

I will email you the form that you submitted online with your SIN, something that we CANNOT know as this is strictly confidential.

      Thank you.

      Customer Response

      07/03/2022

I don't believe you can email this to me since I have never had an email exchange with your company. Nor have I had any direct contact with you guys. Show me evidence that we have communicated prior to the exchange on BBB. You do not have it. Therefore you obtained my info illegally.

      Customer Response

      08/03/2022

I have received the document you claim I signed with my information. Except my name does not appear on the document. Neither does my SIN. So you accepted somebody else's consent to access my personal accounts, and I do not know how you obtained my SIN but you acquired it without my consent as well. You are directly violating privacy laws, specifically PIPEDA, and are relying on your "clients" not understanding this, or not being knowledgable in this area. You are forcing clients into "contracts" without divulging information to them about what they are signing (and speaking to somebody over the phone then signing electronically for them does not equal consent when you are dealing with people with mental disabilities, just FYI). You fail to provide information (I did HEAR the entire conversation you had with my boyfriend although I did not personally speak to anybody!), and you are ******** people into signing a contract that ultimately results you receiving a payment they were not advised they would be obligated to make to you. *************************************************************** *********

      Disability Benefits Plus Response

      08/03/2022

As mentioned previously, we cannot and do not obtain any information about clients unless they complete a form with their SIN, name, email and phone number - which is how I was able to email you the form (how else would I get your email address?).

In addition, once we do review an application, we discuss it with the clients to inform them what can be claimed and how to go about it. If we do not speak with the client, the file will be closed.

I understand your frustration as you do not know who has your information. However, we did not review your application, and no assessment was done to see if you qualify for benefits.

Again, your claim has been closed. We have never been your authorized representatives in the first place.

      Customer Response

      08/03/2022

You could not have obtained my information from me because it was not me who completed the form asking for I formation. It was not me you had a phone call with. And you are correct - you were never authorized by me to become my representative, which is why I removed and blocked your organization from my CRA account after you appointed yourselves as representative without my consent. I did not sign anything. You obtained my email address from a third party. You have not evidenced to me how you obtained my SIN; however you did send me a document with somebody else's SIN and full name evidenced

At this point I feel it's appropriate for me to file a formal complaint against the CBA.
