I regret few things in my life. Number 1 Movers is one of them. I've moved 11 times in my life, and I had more problems with this one move with Number 1 Movers than with every other move combined. Please do yourself a favour and find a more honest and reliable company. You might be in a hurry, and Andrew the slick salesman will assure you they can meet your timeline, but that's just a ***, we were told our move would take 8 to 9 days, it took 20 days, with no communication about the delay until the day before our stuff was set to arrive. We were left sleeping on the floor of our new apartment for 12 days, with not even so much as an apology. They also broke/damaged/lost thousands of dollars worth of our belongings, charged us for a shuttle truck which they directly said would be included, charged us for moving supplies despite their contract stating it was included, didn't provide mattress protectors despite their contract and salesman said it was included, They also went for the classic moving ****, telling us that our stuff weighed much more than their "confident" quote, without any evidence, despite having promised to provide a weight ticket before and after picking up our stuff. **** ***** ** * **** **** ** ***** **** ******* *** * **** ** ** ********** I hired number1movers to move me from Kelowna to Ottawa in June 2022, and it was a bad experience. Initially I thought it would be good. They assigned me a case manager, and I had good contact. But, the day they arrived in Kelowna, the driver arrived in a truck with NO RAMP to put my furniture into his very high truck. The contractors that Number1 hired to help load were great, but i'm quite sure damage occured to my furniture with loading simply because they could not wheel it up a ramp. The number1movers gentleman did not account for what was loaded onto the truck (ie stickers and inventory for me to sign), which I did not realize until they were almost packed. Number1 then charged me far far more than I was quoted. I saw that their rationale is in the fine print of their policy, *** * **** *******. Basically, my stuff took up more space than weight, so they charged for the space not the weight. Additionally, it was really difficult to reach my case manager while my goods were being shipped. My shipment arrived late. Additionally, I told my case manager that I am in a thrid foor walk-up, and they would need a thrid guy for the move, and number1 did not communicate with the people moving my stuff in the last leg. Two men showed up without anything to help with the difficult stairs. My furniter arrived very dirty on the whole, with damage, and they lost multiple items. As I mentioned, number1 did not complete an inventory on departure, so I could not prove loses except with my own inventory. The company offered me $200 in compensation for the loss and damage (miniscule - they have a terrible compensation package), but then did not pay after many many follow-ups. I will say that the two fellows who delivered my goods were amazing. They did their best, and if it had been them who packed me up in Kelowna I think the story would be different. This company is the most ************** I have ever used. The amount of damages is in the thousands. I cant get a hold of them to resolve the issue. They do not return calls, emails or claims. How do they stay in business.Review from Joshua M

Number 1 Moving Company: *Ontario to New Brunswick* A Disastrous Experience ** ************ *** ********* I am absolutely appalled by the abysmal service I received from Number 1 Moving Company. *** ***** ** ************* ******* *** ******** ********* *** ******** ************ ** ************* Not only did they fail to deliver my furniture on time, but they also shamelessly increased the flat rate by a staggering $3600 without any valid reason or prior notice. ** ** ****** ************* *** **** * ************ ******* ********* ** ******* *** ******* ************ ********** From the outset, Number 1 Moving Company appeared professional and reliable. However, as soon as I signed the contract and paid the agreed-upon amount, their true colors were revealed. The promised delivery date came and went without any communication from their end. It has been almost 2 yrs of HELL trying to get my belongings and a refund. My entire house was filled with someone else's stuff while I was away cause they came when they weren't supposed to..I have called 100''s of times and they've sent pics of some of my belongings but didn't deliver them? Don't answer my calls/# has changed several times/ address has changed/employee doesn't work there anymore when I finally get through....and explain everything again?? I just want my belongings +/or a full refund!! What did get delivered a year later was unwrapped/damaged...but most of my stuff is still missing...with NO response from them?? * ***** **** *** **** ******** *********Review from Matthew R

They were definitely not the cheapest and nor the most expensive either, but seemed reputable. The rate was a little higher than what I initially wanted to pay, but after having communicated with their representative, along with their reviews, it seemed they were the ones to go with and I was assured the rate would not change. I sent in the inventory list based on their own rate sheet and weight and was well under the 1500 minimum (according to their criteria) I didn't check the invoice later as it was supposed to be 50% of the balance (after the initial deposit paid) but, after having received a call from Vince at Number 1 movers, and reviewing the invoice, the price went from $1,854 to $4,923 and showed things like a stair fees, long walk fees along with other ridiculous charges! There were NO stairs at all and it was definitely not a long walk. The actual movers used for pick up were contracted out by Number 1 and out in just over an hour with a total of 41 items counted for a 1 bedroom apartment with NO sofa, kitchen table etc. The itemized list was based on their own estimate and even came in well under the minimum 1500 pounds they required as a charge. I've heard of many issues with movers, but I went with these guys specifically due to their reputation and that they were a member of the BBB along with assurances there would be NO hidden surprises. Needless to say, this was a shock to me! Zero stars and then less. This was possibly the worst experience I have had in the world... THE WORST. They broke and lost 1000s of dollars of my personal and business belongings, jacked up the price of the move by $5000 (final total $17k!!!) , suspended communications with me, did not offer four movers on each of the move, they were three hours late showing up and days late showing up to deliver. They told me my possessions would not be moved out of the original truck/can but that was clearly not the case as I had to deal with other people's possessions dumped in the mix. I have to pay almost $15000 to repair and replace all that is lost and it set my business back months. To note they also lost a REALLY EXPENSIVE specialized printer that is going to cost me $10,000 to replace in the end they paid me $84 for the missing item. They also wrecked an $8000 ceramic kiln that I have to use until I can afford a new one.. all the wiring was knocked/ripped out. Also, I feel quite terrible as I recommended this company to a friend after Jennah told me they had experience moving artists and she too is still waiting to be compensated for broken furniture. They don't return her calls either (once they have your money locked in) and she figures they just want to exhaust you until you give up. It is is exhausting. I had to get really, really angry for anything to be done and it is still not resolved after my move in early June. It is now the end of August. Moved from Ontario to Nova Scotia with a estimate of 11,000 to almost 19,000. The first day they didn't take everything and had to come back with another truck to pick up the last few things that wouldn't have even fit on the first truck they brought. Family moved from Calgary to Nova Scotia cost then 12,000. Stuff is coming a day later after me inquiring about the date of arrival just found out less the. 24 hrs that my stuff won't be on time and now have to find another night of accommodation not just for two dog and husband and myself but also my son and daughter-in-law who flew in to help us unpack. How can companies do this to people?!Review from Lianna M

Just completed a cross country move with Number 1 and was incredibly impressed. The initial call was great and the quote was very accurate with no surprise fees. The movers in both cities were efficient and competent! My coordinator was amazing. She answered my questions and helped me with any concerns I had throughout the entire process. Only 2 items of my entire shipment had some damage, and the claim was resolved very quickly. All of my very fragile items arrived in perfect shape. Overall it was a great move and I would definitely use them again!!Number 1 Movers Response
