They promise you so much and keep telling you not to worry he will do an amazing job. WELL THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!! - does not return calls - we discussed a boarder around driveway, that didn't happen - we asked for smooth pavers, he installed textured - he kept ensuring us bench area will be big enough to fit bench, that didn't happen - he said our walkway would be wider. Well he dug up my plants but didn't move wall back. Walkway not wider - lot of areas missing sand between pavers - they worked on our home and my neighbours: 2 walkways, 2 driveways in one day WHAT A MESS - speaking of mess, he left the road and sidewalk full of gravel, soil and asphalt debris DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! Services: Asphalt paving & repair, Hardscapes

      Business response

      05/04/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/02/07) */ As per your complaint I would like to address the following. I am always reachable on my cell phone in which you already have the number. I have returned and responded to your many calls at the earliest time available. As a contractor working in trades it sometimes is difficult to pickup every call while on site as there are loud trucks and machine running constantly. I have to the best of my ability responded your calls in which we have made several appointments, from the estimation of the project, to project execution and lastly receiving payment for my work. As for your concerns about us using the incorrect stone I would like to remind you as per our contract that the stone you selected was "textured". When the stone arrived and was being installed you were very diligent and observant in seeing the material being installed. Never once had you mentioned it wasn't to your liking. As for the walkway and retaining wall I have extended it for you when the job was being completed, FREE OF CHARGE. The bench area was also being completed as per your liking and it seems now that you have purchased a bench too big for the area. Unfortunately by the time you mentioned a driveway border it was too late as the asphalt was already installed. I had explained that in order to have seem-less driveway it would have been best to install an interlock border first and than the asphalt . I understand you changed your mind but unfortunately I didn't want to jeopardize the quality of my work although you were willing to pay the difference in cost. The roads were kept in a brush clean finish and I would like to remind you that construction sites will get dusty etc similar to construction completed on main roads from the city. Lastly I would like to address your concerns about the joint sand. We did have a conversation where I mentioned that the stones were wet in some spots and if a touch up was required I would re-sand the area for you. I am overwhelmed with your claims of being dissatisfied. None of your concerns were mentioned while the project was being completed. When the job was completed you gladly thanked me for my work and paid the balance in Full with no hesitation , without raising any concerns or complaints. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/02/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Contract signed July 18/21 Removal old material Sept 14/21 Work started Dec 1/21 As to address your response to our complaint: The reason we made several calls was because you never responded to initial call. We do understand that it's difficult to return calls in a timely manner while on a job site. You were quick to respond to our call when we told you we wanted to cancel the contract. You came over and told us that there would be a cancellation fee. We asked you several times how the fee was calculated as we disagreed with the amount. You then ********** us you would take legal action and at that point your tone became extremely angry and ****. Regarding the stone, we did mention to you that we wanted smooth stone not textured but you gave us some story that smooth stone is only used for patio areas not walkways. We also emailed you with several other options of smooth stones (see attached email) The contract does not mention textured. The distance between garage wall and new retaining wall is much more narrow then original dimensions. That's good it was 'FREE OF CHARGE' As per your comment on the bench area, you said we bought a new bench. I find that hilarious and is unequivocally untrue. Why don't you check out ****** Maps and see for yourself. I have also provided a few pictures for you to look at. Our neighbour told you several times to make sure the area was large enough for the bench and you told her it would be. I also came out to make sure the area would be big enough and once again you assured me it would be and not to worry the bench will fit perfectly. The driveway boarder was discussed after contract was drawn up and you told us that there would be an extra charge. We agreed and understood the extra fee. I regret not taking a picture of roadway and sidewalk showing the mess you left behind. You absolutely did not brush clean the road or swept the sidewalk. Yes most definitely construction sites/areas do get dusty and dirty from debris but they are also cleaned upon job completion, which you lacked in doing. ************************************************************************************************************************************************** When you came to collect the final payment, I did tell you I was not pleased with textured stone. That's when you gave me the excuse to benefit your error. We just wanted this ordeal to be over with and get you off our property. We didn't want to be ********** again with legal action. Only positive thing about job being completed is that we don't have to go through winter having to shovel gravel/screening. We do not want anything more from this company. We want others to be made aware if they hire this company. We will be hiring a professional to fix his mess. Business Response /* (4000, 15, 2022/03/10) */ To address your claim I think it is necessary to include some key factors on our experience together. First off you did want to cancel the contract as you claimed to have waited an "unreasonable amount of time". I completely understand your frustration, but as a reminder during the ongoing pandemic majority of businesses are facing delays due to staff shortages, lack of raw material and manufacturing delays. Unfortunately we do not manufacture stone and our installation is subject to product availability. The color and stone you had selected were on back order, therefor installation could not happen without product. Secondly, i will verify your statement that you reached out to "cancel" the work, but I did remind you, in order to cancel the contract we would have to be paid for the work that was already completed. As mentioned our work is typically completed in 2 stages dependent on the scope of work. Excavation process and Installation process. Excavation typically includes: removal of debris and old surfaces, disposal and prepping the area for the next process. Installation typically includes installing set material, (colors/products ordered as per our agreement). In between the excavation and installation process there is a typically a period of time that we wait for the ground to "settle", dependent on the firmness of the base, weather, and intended use for the area. You reached out to "cancel" the contract during the process when the work had already been commenced. The excavation process had been already completed. For your project the excavation consisted of the following: Removal and disposal of asphalt driveway, removal and disposal of pre-existing interlocking stones and removal and disposal of soil/grass from flowerbed and driveway edging. Materials were also purchased, delivered, levelled and compacted to prep the base. To complete the excavation I used a large variety of equipment listed as follows: 3 trucks, 3 trailers, 2 bobcats, 1 heavy duty driveway roller, 1 tamper, 5 employees etc. I had told your husband that if you wanted to cancel the contract we would require a payment to cover for the excavation process. The deposit you had given did not cover the extensive work already completed. Your husband told me he did not want to pay the balance for the work completed in which I responded, "if I am not paid for my work I will have no choice but to sue you". As a business owner this is the last but only resolution when a client wants to cancel a contract after work is commenced. Shortly after your husband gave me the go ahead to complete the work. On the installation process ***** was at home watching us complete the work. We spoke several times in regards to the project and not once was there a concern or something that was not to your liking. You even offered us coffee as you were looking things over. Had there been "a size" issue as you claim, that would have been the perfect time to mention it. I also told ***** that the bench area was 6 inches larger than what we had originally quoted for. Still no concerns were raised with the size, quality, color or workmanship. You had every opportunity to mention any concerns but never once did. As mentioned in my first response I advised against the driveway border because the asphalt was already installed. Interlock borders are supposed to be installed before the asphalt so when the asphalt is installed it tight up against the stone eliminating the opportunity for there to be a gap. If the border were to be installed after asphalt installation water/ice can enter the gap and cause movement in the driveway causing it to crack. Had you decided to add the interlocking border prior to the asphalt installation we would have just charged you the difference and completed it. Think to yourself, for what reason would a company refuse to complete EXTRA work for a client and charge MORE money when a customer is OFFERING to PAY. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Once again, the site was swept clean. As for any construction site there will always be some dust and small debris of some sorts, similar to the debris seen when the city is paving roads etc. This is inevitable. Lastly, as per your concern in regards to the stone style may I remind you that we ordered the stone that was listed on the contract that you selected and agreed to. As soon as the job was completed your husband had arrived home and paid us the balance. No questions, concerns or doubt were raised with the work, stone etc. Now months later we are hearing of your "nightmare" experience. We are sorry you feel dissatisfied and we acknowledge everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions.
