I hired this contractor to build a fence for my new home. During the initial assessment, **** assured me that he had built many fences in our newly constructed subdivision and was familiar with the requirements set forth by HOA of *******. We discussed the materials that would be used, the color it was to be stained and the anticipated timeframe for installation. On the date of installation, two men showed up my house- neither of which were the person that I agreed to hire. My wife spoke with them. I was on the phone with her. They asked her which way the pickets were to face. She asked them to explain the question as neither of us know anything about fences. They explained what pickets are and that most people want them facing inside the yard so the "pretty side" faces out and that when the pickets are on the outside, it is easier to for intruders to climb and gain entry to the yard. My wife said she did not want that and asked for them to face the same direction as the neighbors' (facing inside). My wife went to work and when she went to check on the fence later, it was halfway built with the pickets facing outwards. The men were nowhere to be found. The following day, they returned to finish the job and then the owner sent a ******** message requesting final payment. There was no quality check performed. The fence was not painted, as discussed, and it was installed backwards. I was told paint was not included in the quote- even though we had explicitly discussed it. Frustrated, I paid him and hired another contractor to perform the staining. The contractor pointed out that there was not enough concrete used. We have received notices from our HOA regarding the improper installation. **** claims we told him to install it backwards- even though he was not party to the conversation. As a professional, and someone who claims to have done plenty of work in our area, we would expect that he and his employees be aware of standard fence installation.
