On April 24, 2023, I was in an accident and looking for body shops to take my vehicle to for repairs. I got a USAA approved estimate for $2477.83 and took my vehicle to Coach Works for repairs. I had talked to **** and felt comfortable dropping my vehicle off for repairs and gave him the initial estimate that insurance had approved for repairs on May 17th, 2023. I was told that I could give him the initial check for repairs and agreed that insurance would be billed for any extra damage found. We then waited a week to receive a supplement of $27,390.47. We were astonished that my vehicle really needed that amount of repairs and were concerned the vehicle would total. After further examining the supplement, it came to our attention that it was extremely over written and very inflated. It was as if they saw an opportunity to milk every last ***** out of the situation, without any regard for ethical business practices or customer satisfaction. We then waited weeks for the insurance to approve the supplement. With the lack of communication from my insurance and **** threatening high prices and storage fees, we decided that we needed to pick the vehicle up. My car was being held hostage by Coach Works. My vehicle which was once drivable had been disassembled taking off 3 doors, despite damage only being on one side. My insurance company then paid Coach Works $5630.31 in storage fees. I picked up my vehicle and repairs werent completed. The audacity to cash my initial check of $2477.83, which was intended for repairs, without actually performing any substantial work on my car is astonishing. When I requested a refund, they outright refused to return the money, leaving me in a state of disbelief and financial distress.

I took my truck to Coachworks after hitting a construction road sign. There was minor damage to the front left corner of my vehicle. I signed an authorization to bill insurance for the repair. *********************, one of the owners, claimed that there was previous covered up damage from a previous repair done by another autobody shop. **************** claimed that the truck needed to be totaled based off of his frame measurements and other teardown. His estimate to repair the truck was in excess of $30,000. After getting the truck inspected by the insurance company and a third party inspector (both in person), it was determined that there was minor cosmetic damage related to the previous repairs, but nothing as extensive as what **************** was claiming. When we asked **************** to return the truck to a drivable condition so that we could have someone repair the truck, he tried to convince us to continue in the fight against the insurance company and the previous autobody shop. We were simply out of money and energy as we were renting a car out of pocket and found the process arduous and exhaustive..**************** was insistent that we pay him for the services that he rendered, which apparently was from a diagnostic company that had no contact information or online presence. We tried to get **************** to issue us an invoice for the services rendered but he refused, only insisting on a payment of almost $2000 and the signing of an accident waiver. After several hours of arguing and even a consultation by the police, we gave Coachworks a cashier's check for the requested amount, and signed their accident waiver. After looking online, it appears that this is not Coachworks' first rodeo. They seem to be well known in the autobody industry for getting vehicles totaled as indicated by a representative from our other repair shop. Online reviews suggest that they have done this in the past.
