The customer came to us requesting a Belgian Malinois puppy. She was told, we had one that was held back along with his brother, and was five months of age. She was asked several questions in regards to her knowledge and experience with the breed. She stated she understood the breed and would be in the future seeking further training with the puppy.
She was told the puppy was $2,500 due to it being sold without its papers, as with papers the cost would be $3,500. She spent approximately two hours playing with the puppy, the puppy’s brother and her own dog, a French bulldog. She stated that the puppy did not seem interested in playing with her puppy and she would prefer he be more playful with her puppy. All three puppies played together and then passed out together. There was no aggression or any type of issues, as both of the puppies we had shown her have been around large and small dogs and were well socialized with other dogs.
She stated she was going to grab lunch and discuss the puppy with her husband. While she was away she texted and asked me to drop the price several times. It was explained that was our set price for the puppy. She stated she wanted him and was coming back to pick him up. She asked while looking at him a second time about his papers again and she received the same answer that he was not being sold with his papers or the price would have been $3,500. It was explained to her the work involved in raising a Malinois puppy. It was explained he was only five months of age, had been started on house breaking and crate training, that she needed to have a set schedule for him and take a week to bond with him, and then follow up with training for him.
I was contacted approximately a week later and told that she was not sure if she could keep him. I offered training support and to give her free videos on working with a Malinois puppy. That, all puppies require training and correct, continual training until fully developed. It sounded like she had found out that her HOA did not allow the Malinois breed. I asked for a letter from her HOA stating she was not allowed to keep the dog. She was unable to provide the letter. She then contacted me and told me that her neighbor’s dog wanted to meet the puppy. That both dogs were on leashes and her neighbors dog approached and that the puppy bit the neighbor’s dog. She stated the neighbor filed a police report. I requested photographs of the bite and the police report number. She was unable to provide this information.
