My interaction is with Cerritos Acura, part of the Browning Automotive Group. This was my 2nd time at the dealership after moving from ***** and I am sad to be losing an option for my car servicing needs. I came in for an inspection of my brakes. The service advisor told me they would take my wheel off and inspect the wheels to figure out why my steering was shaking when braking. Growing up in the car industry I had a feeling it might be my rotors that needed to be replaced or machined. After waiting about an hour, during this time he kept trying to send me home on a shuttle; he came back and said they did a visual inspection and it might be these issues. When I asked him why only a visual inspection was done he said that is what his multi-point team could do and if I wanted to know for sure what was the issue I would need to pay $200 to have the car looked at by a certified tech. I asked him why was this not done from the beginning and he said the person who was going to do it had to go to lunch, so if I wanted to know for sure I needed to pay, and if I decided to do work with them it would go towards my bill or I would owe the $200. At that point I was furious, I had waited over an hour for them to know nothing and try to charge me to find out what was wrong exactly. They estimated a range of possibilities from $390 to $800+. I asked to speak to the service manager and she was confused about why I was told what I was told but, refused to even waive the fee. She said if I wanted to know I was going to have to pay $200 and be out the $200 if I did not do the work with them. Seemed like a bait and switch, got in with a promised free estimate (told if I waited they would do more than a visual inspection), and then I was told the estimate I was getting was not certain (only visual) and if I wanted to know what was wrong it would be $200. Back in ***** I only took my car to Acura for issues but, here in CA with this service, that will not be the case now.
