Hello, my name is A******** ******* and I am writing to file a complaint regarding the purchase of a vehicle from dealership. I purchased a [03.16.2023, TOYOTA BZ4X LIMITED from Toyota of Lompoc and I am disappointed with the level of service I received. Please read the word document, theres the whole explanation! Thanks!
I must say
that the salesman did not lie to me to make a sale, but as I explained to the
case manager at Toyota Corporate, that they lack knowledge about the vehicle
they sell. And I have several examples. When I bought the car, the salesman
assured me that charging the vehicle using public chargers would be cheap. He
was not intentionally misleading me, but still is NO the true. He was referring
to slow chargers. Where you have to leave your vehicle overnight at 240 volts
and maybe for $10 you could charge your car. If you use fast chargers, it still
takes at least 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to 80% and costs about $18.
This model
is the highest-end one and it included a simple 110v charging cable that takes
almost 2 days to fully charge the vehicle. When I realized this the day after
purchasing the vehicle, I wanted to return it due to the inaccurate or
incomplete information provided.
They then
attempted to sell me a charging station for nearly $1,000. I was taken aback
and questioned if they were serious. I had already traded in my previous
vehicle for $13,500 with monthly payments of $430, Plus they asked me to $1700
down so I was not willing to spend any additional money.
They me to
call me back, and they did. They claimed that they would "give away"
a 240V charging station, but informed me that I’ll be responsible for the
installation costs. I was not entirely convinced that everything would be okay
with this arrangement.
But I
agreed, thinking it would be a possible solution, and then I called an electrician
who charged me $850 to install the 240volts charging station. Once it was
installed, the charging station did not work. The electrician called the
company and they ran through troubleshooting, and everything seemed normal, but
the car did not charge.
I called
Toyota and they told me to bring the car to test their own charging station, as
they had the same model. After a couple of hours of charging, they told me
everything seemed correct and that I should call to the charging station
company, because had a warranty.
When I was
about to leave, something quite no funny happened: they didn’t even know how to
disconnect the charging cable. They explained that it was such a new car that
they still didn't have technicians trained to know the parts of the vehicle. In
others words, I feel like a lab rat due to Toyota's rush to release an electric
vehicle without proper try outs!
Another
example that I learned about this vehicle is that, when driving it in a
consistent and normal way without using the AC or heater or accelerating, it
should easily reach the mileage that it claims to have. However, in reality, it
doesn't.
I
experienced this firsthand when I was in Goleta at 3am, which is 44 miles away
from my house. The car indicated that it had 78 miles left, so I assumed
everything was going to be alright. But when I was only 8 miles away from my
house on Route 1, the car suddenly ran out of charge, and the dashboard showed
that it had 0 miles left. It was frustrating and disappointing, but the point
is the car don’t work as described or they told me! In other words, they sold
me a vehicle that costs almost the same as a gasoline vehicle daily.
The City of
Lompoc helped me calculate the possible charging costs at my home, and they
estimated that it would be more than $400 per month minimum, plus the daily
charging costs on the street for $300 to $400 hyper-fast chargers.
Additionally, I had to take out a new $1,000 loan every single month which is
more than double that I paid for my trade in vehicle. In conclusion, it's not
like what the salesman told me, that the vehicle would pay for itself. I ended
up paying more than what I would have paid for a gasoline vehicle.
Corporate
has opened a case number (230323001814) and told me they will take 30 to 45
days to find a possible solution. However, as a heavy driver user, I told them
I wanted to return the vehicle immediately. I am concerned that if they take
too long to make a decision, the car will have no less than 10,000 miles on it.
Since purchasing the car, it already has almost 2,100 miles on it. They told me
I could take any action I need to take and that they will talk to the
department of cases and legal.
