We paid non-refundable pre-enrollment fees to Stratford School located at 341 Great Mall Parkway, Milpitas, ** ***** for the academic year 2023/2024 for Grade 5 for our son. The school charged us a non-refundable amount of $500. My wife and I have attended multiple orientation in past years (KG-4th grade) for our son and the only thing that was mentioned to us during these meetings was that, the $500 enrollment was non-refundable. There was no mention of any additional penalty if we decided not to enroll our kids to the school. We had already paid $500 and were OK/in agreement to pay that. Now they are threatening to collection some fees which is hidden fees. We are definitely NOT ok to pay the penalty as requested by the school since there was no mention of it during anytime of the discussion. The kid has NOT attended an hour or a day of school and calling this out somewhere in a ******************************************* any of the numerous meetings/communication is unfair and accounts to cheating. I am willing to take this to the court if needed. If this is what the character of the school and their morals I will certainly take to social media and will also advise other parents not to get their kids admitted to this school. I will go to the court if need be. Attaching non-enrollment message in parent portal and yet sending us to collectionInitial Complaint

I paid for my two children's 5 weeks of summer camp on early bird terms. (total $3571.00, first paid date: Feb 21, 2023). My two children went to school for the first time on June 6th and gave me feedback that they were very disappointed. The reason is that the class was conducted as a babylike activity, unlike the flashy advertised content (STEAM, science, art, etc.). The yarn winding activities were carried out consecutively on day 1 and day 2, and my children (7 and 6 years old), who were no longer interested in class, wanted to stay home. Even, my kids confirmed that some of the classes in the time table shared with parents were skipped. My children and I were greatly disappointed when we expected quality classes that public schools do not have. After the second day of school, I notified the school that the children would no longer attend classes and requested a refund. The problem started here. The school says that only a maximum of 3 weeks' of tuition (except for the deposit of $100.00 per week) is refundable. My children, who attended only two days of classes, paid a total of $3571, but they claim that they can only refund $1,582.60. This is almost $1000/day. I couldn't accept this condition and asked the school for a full refund for 4 weeks. The school has not even refunded $1582.6 yet, and is not responding to the email.Customer response

We paid the application fee three years ago to enroll in the 2022-2023 school year Stratford preschool program in ********** campus (GM). I waited three years until this June they emailed me that GM campus still no spot, they suggested me to enroll santa ***** or ********* campus, and the Beresford campus is under construcution, if we want to enroll that campus, we need to wait until 11/28/2022. In Stratford, if a child enroll one school campus first and then transfer to another campus which will be much easier and faster than just pay the application fee and wait in the waitinglist. In order to expedite the process, we paid $500 for a spot in Beresford campus and then sumbitted for transferring to GM campus. We told the school we are not going to Beresford campus and will wait until GM campus has spot, We thought this is a faster way. But the Beresford campus told us if we withdraw, we cannot get $500 nonrefundable fees, and also there is a 10% anuual tuition penalty fee for us which is about $2600! This is unreasonable, from the beginning till now, we didn't get any services from Stratford, we asked for withdrwal before the school starts (11/28/2022), why should we pay the penalty fee? We paid $500 for just reserve a spot in GM, now if don't enroll in Beresford, the school charged us another $2600? This is unacceptable for us. We requested to waive our panelty fee as we didn't start the school yet, we didn't get any services from the school. We have to enroll Bereford campus first just because the school's policy made us to do so (transfer from one campus to another is faster). The school emailed me yesterday and asked me to fill the withdrawl form, I didn't fill it yet, because once we signed that form, they'll start to charge us the penalty fee. We'll not ask for a refund for the $500, but we request to waive the penalty fee. We hope to get solution for this. Thank you!
