USAP Events purports to put on triathlons in **********. I registered for the "********************* Sprint Triathlon" that was scheduled to occur on May 21, 2023. On May 4, 2023, having not gotten any updates about the race, I emailed USAP Events asking whether the race was still on. Only after I emailed them did they inform me that the race had been postponed to July. (It was later cancelled altogether.) Because I was moving out of state before the rescheduled date, I requested a refund. USAP Events told me that they do provide refunds when people move out of state, and promised to issue a refund once I sent my new address and moved. I provided the requested information and followed up. On July 4, 2023, USAP Events said they would "get a refund check to [me] very soon" and confirmed my address. I never heard from them again despite sending at least 11 follow up emails. I attempted to call and reached ********************* via phone; he said he was aware of the situation and would look into it, but I never heard back.In reliance on USAP Events' promised refund, I registered for an alternate triathlon scheduled to take place in June 2023. But for USAP Events' promise that I would receive a refund, I would not have paid again to register for a second triathlon. In short, I paid for two races but only completed one, having been falsely promised that I would be refunded for the rescheduled (and later cancelled) event.

I registered for the ********************* Triathlon on 1/30/2023 that was scheduled for 5/21/2023. Attached is a copy of my registration. On 5/10 my friend told me that she heard the triathlon was rescheduled (her boyfriend was signed up), so I emailed *************************, Volunteer Director at **** Events, that same day and she responded: "Not a rumor and we apologize that we have not gotten notice out to everyone. The announcement should be out in the next day or so. Your current registration will automatically push to the new date." I never received the announcement by email, but later checked the website and found that it was updated with the rescheduled date of 7/16/2023. On 6/27, I emailed ****** because I hadn't received any emails about the postponement and wanted to make sure I was on the distribution list regarding bib pick-up, etc. On 6/30 I received a general email (attached) that the ********************* Sprint Triathlon was cancelled and that everyone registered would be automatically entered into the **** event. On 6/30, 7/4 and 7/10 I emailed ****** and the *********************************** email, asking for a refund and was told that they do not give refunds. I do not plan on participating in the **** event and am doubtful it will be put on, and it is unreasonable that they will not give the refund option.Lastly, another race that they were to have put on in May 2023 - the Half Moon Bay Triathlon - was similarly canceled. My friend's boyfriend actually has 4-5 deferrals from **** Events for canceled races. He continues to register for races, using his deferrals, including the ********************* Triathlon, only to have the old deferrals roll over. I have heard that the company is having financial problems and this is why they have canceled their races for the last several years, with no intention of putting them on.I also discussed this with *** 7 On Your Side, who reached out to ****** twice but received no response. They suggested that I contact the BBB and file a complaint.
