On January 19th, 2023, I had scheduled a preventative skin screen, which is covered at 100% by my insurance. Each individual I requested information from in writing, neglected to tell me that specialists cannot do preventative screenings. Not only that, I did not consent to anything other than skin screen, and the dermatologist did not disclose the nature of the meeting had changed. Now they are trying to extort $623 from me because they consider it a specialist visit, and have used my signature on documents that were not disclosed to me and that I did not see. They ask you to sign on a Topaz signature device without showing you what you are signing, and I did not complete or receive the financial responsibility or financial consent form. Had I been given proper disclosure that two codes could be used for the same appointment, and given me an opportunity to consent to proceed with an office visit, I could have decided for myself, at which point I would go back to my insurance to obtain the *** code, just as I always do. UC Davis Medical Group ********* and *************************** need to be held accountable for this unethical practice and promptly remove this balance from my account. Thank you.
