I have purchased a bicycle in October 2023 from Cognition Cyclery. On 7/26/2024 I have been contacted directly by a third party ************* presented themselves as a "Bike Recovery Action Team Seattle") who said that they have found my bicycle claiming that I have purchased it from Cognition Cyclery. The picture provided was not my bicycle but it seems like an exact same model photoshopped into a scene. Since I did not lose my bicycle, I have contacted Cognition Cyclery to report the incident but they confirmed they have been contacted and shared my information directly with said third party (my Name, Phone Number and the fact I have purchased the bicycle). Cognition Cyclery shared my personal information with a third party without my permission and I suspect the third-party might be a "lost bike" scam.Business response

Thank you for reaching out and for giving our business an opportunity to respond to this complaint. We were approached by this company who recovers stolen bikes and we did confirm that this was a possible owner of this bicycle as we will always strive to connect owners with stolen property. It was our mistake giving out our customer's phone number to this company. We spoke with both the customer and the company in the wake of this situation explaining that this was not the customer's bike and that no further action was required on their behalf. Furthermore, we will no longer be supplying anyone with customers' contact info moving forward and have made this abundantly clear with our staff. We apologize that we exacerbated and/or created an issue that should have been a non-starter but we promise that it was from a place of compassion and not done with intended harm. As previously stated we are learning from this mistake and ******************* wall all further companies trying to reconnect stolen bikes with their owners.
