I hired The UPS Store #3574 to pack and ship via UPS a total of four vintage aluminum wheels (one set) for me from California to North Carolina. These wheels have not been produced in over 20 years and are not replaceable. I told them this. The problem was whoever packed the wheels at franchise 3574 had no idea how to properly and reasonably pack a box for shipping. There were two wheels per box. No packing materials placed in the boxes at all. No cardboard and no foam paper separating the wheels. The two boxes were too big for the wheels, and the two wheels per box clanged around for 3000 miles. When the boxes arrived the UPS driver was nearly speechless at how poorly they were packed. He did tell me that the extra clear tape was placed on the boxes by UPS during transit, when the boxes failed and the wheels were rolling out. Photos show now-damaged wheels poking out of failed boxes. There was no offer for insurance on the boxes via The UPS Store, and parent UPS has refused to pay since The UPS Store "improperly" packed the boxes. The UPS Store does not use or reply to their official UPS email account. They previously had asked me to send to a Gmail account before I hired them, and they don’t reply there either. Their voicemail is not set up, or they are blocking my out-of-state number. UPS claims The UPS Store is contractually obligated to settle this claim, but if they don’t, there’s nothing UPS can do. The UPS Store regional manager has not responded. All four wheels have damage around the outer rims. Two are bent. The local repair shop told me these wheels can never be fully repaired from shipping damage unless they had the outer rims replaced at exorbitant cost. So instead I have paid $536.25 out of pocket to have the wheels repaired to the extent that they can reasonably be. The UPS Store’s negligent packing job has ruined these wheels and now they are refusing restitution.
