On July 6, 2022 I visited SpeeDee Oil Change in ******* at approximately 11:30 AM to have a refrigerant recharge in my ** unit of my 2016 **************** A). I was informed by the person who serviced the car that the compressor was weak in the car and they recommended getting a new one and provided a quote for the service (Ex B), but that the recharge will allow me to use the car as normal. We paid the original invoice on 7/6/2022 in full - $106.28.It was apparent after getting the car back that the ** was not in normal working condition, and on July 7, 2022 it was no longer blowing out cold air, and I made an appointment at ******************* in *******, who I have taken my car to multiple times before and have a good history with them. On the initial refrigerant extraction (Ex C), at 9:25 PM on July 7, 2022, M&M found that SpeeDee Oil filled the car with **** lbs of refrigerant (~850 grams). The recommended limit per the 2016 ****************** Manual (Ex D) is 550 grams, which equates to approximately **** lbs of R-134a refrigerant. SpeeDee filled the vehicle 54% over the limit of the vehicle.Due to this negligence of the SpeeDee employee failing to monitor the pressure of the refrigerant, the over-filling destroyed the compressor, expansion valves, condenser with drier, and service ports in the engine. The total repairs and labor required from ******************* was $1,576.94 and was paid in full when the repairs were complete on July 14, 2022. The invoice description also references that the car is over charged resulted in all of the damage to the system.Business response

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. This vehicle is a 2016 *** ******** with ***** miles. The *** arrived at our shop with the customer requesting an A/C service as the system in the *** was not cooling very well. When we start and finish any A/C service the system pressures are read and noted on the invoice provided to the customer. The pressures at the start of the service were 150 High side and 55 on the Low side. The system was evacuated and 14 ounces of refrigerant was recovered. The system was put in a vacuum before charging and then charged with **** ounces of refrigerant. The *** was only 5 ounces low. We use a Robinair 34788NI-H A/C machine that is accurate to less than 1/4 of an ounce. The system was started and final pressure readings were noted. High side 152 low side 50. As you can see very little difference in pressures between the start and finish of the service. The system was only cooling 16 degrees which is not acceptable. If the system was overcharged as stated in this complaint the high side and low side pressures would be extremely high with the high side reaching 250 PSI or over. The final readings were very low and indicated a weak compressor. The customer was advised a new compressor was needed and an estimate was given, replacement was declined at that time. Reimbursement for repairs is denied.
