On June 15, 2024, I purchased a **** F150 truck in cash at Berkenkotter motors of ********, ********. I was told by the salesperson that I would receive my title to the truck in the mail a few weeks later, it has already been over 5 weeks that I still haven't received the title. I had previously contacted the salesperson twice about the issue. I was told that he would call me back. Both times the salesperson has yet to give me a call or relay any type of message about my issue. I refuse to extend my soon to be expired temporary license plate tag because of the extra money for such and the included costs when I do receive my title to register my vehicle.Business response
07/17/2024
***, I'm not sure what the exact complaint is. It has been 32 days since you purchased the truck. Your temp tag is good for 60 days because the state and county know that is sometimes how long it can take. Around 45 days is usually when titlework goes out. Any temp tag that expires, gets free renewal from the state the day after the expiration. There are no penalties you will owe for any delays when you do register, so no worries there either. This 60 day time frame is normal and endorsed by the state of colorado, which is why they offer free extensions on temp tags if necessary. I do not forsee that to be your case since as I mentioned at first, it has barely been 30 days. Thank you for your patienceCustomer response

I purchased an 08 Silverado from Berkenkotter motors in *********** we were told it was in good mechanical condition and that the brakes had been replaced all the way around all four wheels we were never given a buyers guide we werent given the history report until after all electronic signatures were done because it was the salesmans day off and he rushed us through everything so he could go back home this was on June 6, 2024 I contacted them less then 2 weeks later telling him that the brakes were very spongy and I had to pump them in order to get any pedal at all very unsafe to drive well I live 250 miles from their location and theyre like can you swing by and let us take a look that was at 330pm after I had contacted them at 9am it took them all day to tell me to bring it in well it takes. Me 4 hours to get there so 330 pm didnt work so I contacted them again and they said I should call their other location to speak with their mechanic well their mechanic didnt do the work on the truck an independent shop did in ******** come to find out after several attempts to contact through emails voicemails and text messages so finally on July 5, 2024 we take the truck back to ******** to the shop that had done the work and had an inspection done come to find out the front brakes is all that was done an oil change and a new tire the rear brakes drums are stuck on the truck the front wheel bearings are completely dry and both cv axles are shot plus it needs a brake booster we went back to the dealer spoke with the salesman about the unsafe condition of this truck and all he said is heres the owners and my bosses number have a great day conveniently the mechanic that worked on our truck quit shortly after doing the work and the manager at the repair shop said they can only do what berkenkotter tells them to So not only is the truck unsafe for me to drive its posed a threat to other motorists as well they put 3 different tread tires on as well which was mentionedBusiness response
07/08/2024
So you claim the vehicle is completely unsafe to drive but have put on over 1000 miles and continue to drive? The shop did say the rear brakes were at 50% so we did not change what didn't need changed. The brake booster was the front clerks suggestion / guess to the problem you were explaining to him, not an exact diagnosis. The tires are the same ones that were on when you first saw the truck. The salesperson did exactly right in passing along the phone number of our after care specialist. If you have any other questions please contact them directly.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
I was told all brakes were replaced not at 50% salesman was adamant about it I mentioned the tires and the tpms light to the salesman and was ignored several times if there was an inspection done prior to July 5, 24 shouldnt it be with the vehicle? I have the complete inspection report and it wasnt a front clerk who guessed at what was wrong they inspected the truck I have sent numerous emails and texts most of which have gone unanswered like the two I sent to your main office before the complaint to bbb I had to drive the truck back to ******** for the inspection and then back home and here is where is sits hasnt been driven since because it is unsafe for me and other motorists because of the lies told to me by your employee about the brakes being brand new and all the other issues the inspection found as well as running tires of different tread speed rating and load range and a malfunctioning tpms and I never received a buyers guide for this vehicle not any other paper work other then my receipt for my down and the vhr which was given after all electronic signatures were made and the emissions report only because it was in the truck you are a shady unscrupulous business and you are selling vehicles that are unsafe to any one within range should a cv shaft break or the bearings give out or the brakes completely failing not to mention the 3 different tread tires its unfortunate that you as a manager and customer service contact care so little about you customers safety

I have additional photos Id like to send you proving *************** at Berkenkotter is lying to us about the brakes on the truck I purchased. I had no choice but to pull the back brakes off to try and make it at least drivable to get it into a shop, and the passenger side drum actually had the brake adjusters inside the drum rolling around and rubbing on the drum to the point they are almost unrecognizable. The drivers side is almost as bad but there are no brake adjusters at all on that side. So the fact that *************** said the back brakes were at 50% is impossible no one has gad those drums off in a very very long time so either he is being deceitful or the repair shop is. Those brakes were down to the metal and the drum took us almost 4 hours just to get it off.

I purchased a 2014 ****** wrx from berkenkotter motors in ***************** about a month and a half ago. Not even 24 hours after bringing the vehicle home the check engine light came on showing that the codes were cleared before the car was sold. I pulled codes for bad ocvs, a bad Thermostat, a camshaft position sensor, and the fuel system running rich, as well as the steering wheel angle position sensor and a few other codes that will be provided in the photos I attached. I than took the car to a ****** dealer to have it inspected the control arm bushings are cracked and worn which is a safety concern that should of been replaced before the car was sold as well as a major alignment issue to where the front passanger tire is leaned in and causing major tire wear to the inner tread of the tire all 4 tires should of been replaced and had an alignment done on top of this the shift shaft seal is leaking and the dip stick seal is leaking as well. Suabru than printed me a parts list of all the parts that need to be replaced I told the business about these issues and it took them a month to send me a check that was only for $350 that is no where near enough to cover the cost of the safety repairs and the repairs for engine parts that are causing the vehicle to run improper and causing my fuel system to run rich I was told that they would figure something out with me to cover the cost of repairs more needs to be done to ensure this vehicle that I have not even had for 2 months is safe and reliable to drive I have messaged the manager once yesterday the 3rd of July and today the 4th of july this morning for an update and have had no response something needs to be done to solve these issues so I can have a safe reliable car to drive. I messaged the owner *** berkenkotter multiple times and had no response. On the 5th of July he accidentally called me so I asked to speak with him. He became very emotional and angry and was using vulgar language when talking to me.Business response

You are a mechanic yourself. Even in our conversations the past few weeks you keep telling us what a great mechanic you are. So why would you now pay ****** to look at your car? Only for a high invoice to show us... Your tune has changed dramatically since you purchased the car back in May. At that time you took the car out, had it inspected, it had already passed emissions, and you yourself said there were little things wrong with the car which we negotiated out in price. Since then you have called repeatedly asking for more help. Initially we did give you some help for parts as you requested ($350). This was agreeable to you then, but now your want more and more. We will no longer be handing out money. We were up front and true to our word. You cannot be satisfied no matter what we do, so we are content to let you do business elsewhereCustomer response

I am rejecting this response because: I never said I accepted the $350, I took it to a dealer to have a certified parts list so you guys did not think I was lying about the issues it has. I was never told how much you would send me you can see in all the screen shots of messages that I never said that I accepted the $350. This car has many issues and needs to be resolved you guys sold me a car that is unsafe and has mechanical issues. It doesn't even seem like the car was inspected before it was sold. Yes it passed emissions before you sold it cause the codes were cleared now that the codes are back on the car the system is running rich and will not pass emissions. You sold a car that you should not of sold and not it needs to be resolved.

I purchased a 2014 Audi A6 from the Berkenkotter dealership in Brighton on August 9,2022 from *******************************. After getting it home, I realized that there was a crack in the windshield all across the bottom of it. I got a hold of *** and asked if they'd replace it, since I would've insisted on that had I noticed it. He said that they would. Over several weeks, *** kept changing times to have it done, ignored me as I tried to get a hold of him and when he would respond, I'd get the run around some more. After a few months, he stopped responding all together. Since the crack was in an inconspicuous place, it was something that was put on the back burner, with life, business, health and family taking center stage. Finally on Sept 1, 2023, the crack had spread to the middle of the windshield and I decided that I had better call the dealership and talk to a manager, to finally get the windshield that I was promised. I talked to the manager, ****. I explained the situation and he basically laughed and said that it had been over a year so I was out of luck. I continued explaining that I had had 3 surgeries in the last 16 months and between, recovery, trying to get caught up with business (I'm a home remodeling contractor) and life, I hadn't taken the time to pursue the matter but, since it was promised, and I had all the documentation saved on my phone between ******* and myself, I expected them to honor it. He said that he'd call the owner and get back to me. He called me back after (supposedly) talking to the owner and told me that they wouldn't do anything for me. I can't believe that not only will they not honor their promise, that ******* is still employed there. I'm extremely frustrated and will be filing a claim in court if this isn't resolved.Business response

As he stated, he didnt see that crack until he had already taken it home. We have a vendor who comes weekly and changes all windshields. I'm not saying we couldn't miss one, but it is improbable that it was cracked and that he and we all missed it on his test drives. A complete year later is too long to complain about cracked windshields, especially in Colorado where sand and gravel are the norm. It took him a whole year to call to get it rectified? Or to reschedule appt? No. All Colorado cars are sold as-is, especially a year later.Customer response

Complaint: 20593631
I am rejecting this response because: I'm at a loss for both words and logic. First, they AGREED, IN WRITING, to replace the windshield. Their explanation that I missed it on my test drive and they have a glass guy come through weekly, so the likelihood of it being missed is absurd. I purchased the car on the afternoon of Aug 9th and got a hold of ******* the morning of the 11th, doesn't give me much time to have had it break on my watch. Regardless, at the time, they agreed to replace it. I still have the original pictures from August 11 that I sent to Val, where you could see that the crack had an attempted fix in the past-- and the same crack is there today. For some reason the original pictures won't upload, but if they're willing to sit down with me and look at my actual pictures, and texts with *******, they'd be able to see that I have everything that I'm claiming to have. I guess that I'm also confused as to why they were willing to take care of it when I purchased the vehicle, but due to, mainly, Val not following up with me for days at a time and eventually, ever, now they're NOT willing to stand by their word? All over a $500 (retail) windshield for a deal that they made AT LEAST $8,000-$9,000 ON! Like I told **** over the phone, I don't want to, but will have to file a claim in court against them if they continue to refuse to do the right thing. It'll take the judge all if 45 seconds to read all the texts between ******* and myself to see that they're in the wrong and to find in my favor. Does it REALLY have to come to that? Especially since everything else about my purchase was such a good experience?
Sincerely,

I rented an apartment from *** the owner of Berkenkotter Motors. Upon first dealing with *** I thought he was a reasonable landlord. I moved in on September 15th and gave my security deposit. I started having problems almost immediately after moving in. My neighbors smoked in their apartments and the smell would engulf the hallways and at times my apartment. *** posted numerous letters stating that smoking is not allowed in the building and that he would kick people out if they continued to do so. He did not and this behavior continued. In addition to this matter, one of the tenants had an aggressive pitbull and would often have him unleased both inside the building and directly outside. He would let his pitbull run up and down the halls at all hours of the night causing not only a disturabnce but a huge safety concern. I brought this to the attention of *** and saidf he resolved it and he did not. While trying to get out of the elevator one day this tenant's dog attacked myself and my dog. The tenant proceeded to berate me and walk off. I contacted *** and he chose to do nothing. I was forced to move out due to PTSD from this traumatic event and constantly being berated by this tenant. I could of easily sued and chose to try and resolve the issue amicably. *** ignored the situation and has chosen not to give me back my security deposit. He has ignored all communication to try and resolve the issue and right now his act is illegal according to ******** law. After reading other reviews on here I feel it's important for others to know that he practices poor business tactics in other facets of his life.Business response

I've purchased a used 2011 Jeep Liberty from the entity named Berkenkotter Motors LLC, in **********. I had to drive the vehicle to have its emissions tested as the dealership has a small staff, and nobody had the time to perform the task.It failed emissions testing, and is now waiting at one of their shops to be fixed which they are required to do by law.I'm spending an additional $1,200 out of pocket for a rental vehicle as of right now.Additionally within 48 hours of purchase the vehicles check engine light came on showing the catalytic converter is failing. The fact that the light came on that quickly insicates their mechanics have cleared the code, not solved the problem, and hoped to send the vehicle out the door without anyone noticing.Business response

I bought a **** f350 back in 2016 and every other week the truck was in the shop. I worked on a traveling drill rig at the time and with the truck constantly being in the shop for multiple days every other week it cost me my job. ******* i could not make the payments and i told the owner personally that i had an interview for a job in town close enough to walk to because of the issues of the truck. Day after the interview the truck blew up the high pressure oil pump which i bought a warrantee for that was covered. I only knew about the high pressure oil pump and then i get a call from the owner saying that they replaced injectors that i had no knowledge about nither okayed the work to be done. he said it would be $1200 for the injectors to pick the vehicle up. I did not okay any of the work other than the ***** They kept the truck and next thing i know i have a court judgment against me. They ended up costing me my job a vehicle and my house at the time.Business response

This happened 6 years ago? How are we supposed to know what happened 6 years ago with any detail? Non-the- less, no matter what we or any car dealership can do, there is for sure one thing we cannot do. We cannot remove your non payments to the bank on your car loan. We had nothing to do with that. It was your loan and you're responsibility to pay that loan as agreed. Nothing we did or didn't do makes us responsible for your monthly bills. But that aside, we can't....Literally can't .... as in we have no power to do so even if we wanted to...change a credit bureau entry or score.Initial Complaint

Purchased Jeep from Berkenkotter Motors (BM) on 10/11/2022. Two days later, MANY NOTICEABLEOIL LEAKS under the vehicle. The Jeep was assessed by a 4X4 repair center. They diagnosed $2600 worth of repairs needed (Transfer Case Companion / Output ****** ***** ********** Pan Gasket, Transfer Case Fluid Exchange, Axle Seal Replace, Wheel Bearings.) On top of this, the Jeep did not pass emissions testing. We informed dealership of the mechanical issues detected, which concerned us more than failed emissions. We were told we would need to speak with the Owner *** Berkenkotter; he confirmed that we need to bring the Jeep back to BM. We spoke to ********** 6 times (for a total of 23 minutes) from 10/14/22 through 10/22/22, and this is what he stated and agreed to:1.**********, confirmed that his technicians found about $2000 worth of oil leaks2.********** said that he sets aside money for these types of incidents so his sales people dont get dinged on commissions. If customers bring back vehicles within 30 days for mechanical issues, he normally splits the cost of the repairs with them 50/503.When we mentioned this vehicle was for our son, our son would be out of pocket for this money, he said, since its your son, he can cover $700 and we will cover the rest. He then gave us his mechanics telephone number to reach out to.When we spoke to mechanic, he stated they would ONLY fix the rear main seal at a cost of $2000 for the single repair in which we were to pay $700 (the local 4x4 center quoted $732 for that single repair.) In other words, they were going to use our money and make one repair fully paid for by us.Why did ********** commit to contribute $1,300 towards $2,000 worth of oil leaks, if he had no intention of doing so? Son w/o vehicle for 18 days. No concessions offered.********** seemed to be a man of integrity, when it came to following through with action behind his words, he directed this mechanic to basically tell us to get if fixed elsewhere.Business response

Complaint: 18357126
I am rejecting this response because: The only work performed by the company was required for them by the ***************** or refund our money. They replaced a Catalytic Converter so the vehicle could pass ******** Emissions. They told ** it would cost $2000.00 to repair the rear main seal oil leak. When we questioned why their price was so high, we were told to get it fixed elsewhere. We submitted a work order from another shop to their shop mechanic stating all the leaks that had been identified. We were lead to believe the $2000.00 they stated would be covering the majority of those leaks, in which we were to pay $700.00. The view of the work discovered in the 4X4 initial quote in which the estimate was $787.78 for the rear main seal repair is attached. This was sent to the shop manager to view. We were told to get the work done at our shop since it is less expensive. We were not advised to submit an invoice to Berkenkotter. Just that statement and goodbye over the telephone. So we patiently waited till they had the catalytic converter completed. Got the work done elsewhere as we were told. The owner of this business spoke to my wife and I on a Saturday evening approximately 7:30pm for about 10- 12 minutes. In which he committed to covering $1,300.00 of repairs. He commented he sets aside money so the salespeople do not get dinged for things like this. Having sent ************** work order over with $2000.00 worth of oil leaks. We believed we were on the same page. Which is why we agreed to pay $700. We were simply misled and brushed off when we questioned their figures. We have paid for the work and are asking the owner to live up to his verbal commitment. We made 2 mistakes doing business with Berkenkotter. Not getting the inspection first which is why we felt we needed to pay some of the repairs. 2nd mistake was not recording the Saturday evening phone conversation my wife and I had. Owner needs to fulfill his promises and now that the bill and repairs have been done the only thing to do is send us a check for $1300.00 for repairs he said he was willing to cover in his service center.
Sincerely,

Complaint: 18357126
I am rejecting this response because: 1st the person responding to this complaint had no part of any conversations, discussions or involvement whatsover in the transactions. 2nd I do agree that Berkenkotter Motors did what they were required to do by ************** Emissions Laws and replace the catalytic converter. I am rejecting for the reason that we were mislead by the owner D. Berkenkotter that he had some empathy for the fact they sold us a vehicle that had a large number of oil leaks and miscellaneous repairs needed. D. Berkenkotter made statements on a Saturday evening phone call with I and my wife present like "I set aside money for things like this so my sales people are not negatively impacted". "in situations like these where substantial repairs are needed within 30 days of business I will typically split the cost of the work with customers 50%". "Yeah my shop manager said you guys have about $2000.00 worth of oil leaks" "Oh your son would have to pay the 50% of the $2000.00 let's make it $800.00 no wait $700.00 for you guys". I want D. Berkenkotter to follow through with his words and honor his promises. We provided a detail list of all the work that was diagnosed by a reputable shop with certified mechanics so assumed that was being referenced when a statement of "you guys have $2000 worth of oil leaks. Let me finish by saying I am a 54 year old consumer and have never felt the need to submit a BBB complaint. However if this company is okay with this story being public record than so be it. So consumer if you are reading this prior or post purchase from Berkenkotter motors. Two pieces of advice. Get all commitments of service in writing. Record all phone conversations with the Owner and the shop mechanic (not a certified technician btw). Last note to business and responder. Had you told us the minute we brought to your attention about the repairs identified. "Sorry guys you bought a used as is vehicle and any repairs post the purchase transaction we have no obligation other than the catalytic converter." We would have been disappointed but would have known where you stood right there and moved on without another word. Don't tell people what they want to hear tell them the truth!!!
