8/2/2024 Paid $79 for estimate of electrical work I brought them out to give an estimate for putting in 3 fans, instead they claimed my type of breaker panel was not up to code and needed replacing and gave me a quote ($10,637 at least 4x any other estimate) to replace it. I later discovered that my type of panel is up to code and does not need to be replaced. Therefore, their electrician lied to me about electrical code in order to create work. This was a blatant attempt to defraud me. Then they charged me $79 for the attempt.Business response

******* we apologize for any miscommunication that you may have received. It is never our goal or intention to make anyone of our customer feel like they are being ripped off or manipulated. The panel you have is a Square D split bus panel which is no longer manufactured and is outdated. The panel does not have a main disconnect which does not meet current code. When the house was built and at the time the panel was installed the panel met code, but if we were to take that same panel and install in the same fashion in the current code it would not pass electrical inspections. We always recommend safety items be replaced for all of our customers its the only way to truly put our safety approval on a home, we do not do evaluations for any other reason but to bring up safety issues and educate our customers on said safety items. At the end of the call we will always present options, and let the customer decide what they would like to do.
For the service fee, this is a fee that many contractors of our size charge. This cost was mentioned on the phone call and we charge this to cover the overhead of the company in order to get our technicians to your door. We are always sure to explain this on the original call and can provide a copy of that phone call recording if you would like.
