In 2015 my husband and I hired Blackfin IRS Solutions to help us with an IRS Audit. We were promised they would be able to help us. In December 2016 I moved to ****** to be closer to my elderly parents. Because the audit stemmed from my husbands business, which was a Sole Proprietorship business and I was not involved, I received a call in 2017 by one of the attorneys and asked if I wanted to file as an innocent spouse . I said yes and haven't heard anything since. I figured they were taking care of what needed to be done. I have been paying on the outstanding taxes ever since, even though I wasn't responsible for anything associated with the business. My husband passed away 2 years ago and last year I called Blackfin to find out if I needed to continue to pay on the outstanding taxes. I have called several times, when they do answer the phone I'm told someone will call me back, this hasn't happened. I've left numerous messages and again no call back. I was told in February that they were working on the upcoming tax deadline and to call back in May. I'm very frustrated with the lack of consideration for even a call back or any assistance.Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.Business response

Dear ***************, I apologize that we havent been able to connect with you sooner, my staff informed me that they had returned your phone calls and had left messages on your VM to call us back.
I believe your concern is that owe income taxes from tax returns which you and and your deceased husband filed as Married Filing Joint which obligated each of you to pay the total amount due regardless of who made the income. Your returns were selected for audit by the **** and they made adjustments to your returns based on your husbands self-employment income which was part of your married filed jointly income tax return.
This resulted in additional taxes, penalties, and interest for which are you both are liable. Our records from 2015, 2016 & 2017 do not reflect us being engaged to prepare and file an innocent spouse claim for you with the **** As the Innocent Spouse Claim process is arduous, complicated, and expensive we do not believe it to be a good value proposition for most taxpayers as a large percentage of these claims are denied by IRS as they suggest that each taxpayer derived the benefits of the additional family income.
