On May 19, 2023 a wide spread hail storm hit eastern Colorado, damaging roofs all over the front range. Shortly there after, I contacted my insurance company, Liberty Mutual, on or about 5/18/23, and they sent an inspector out to my house to conduct the inspection. The inspector submitted his findings to Liberty Mutual on 5/22/23. Since I didn't like the attitude of the inspector, I decided to go with Soderburg Roofing & Contracting who had been in the neighborhood drumming up roofing business since the storm. I checked out Soderburg's website and saw that they were an accredited member of your organization. My wife and I met with Will Bingham and Kevin Cook in our house to go over our roofing options. My wife and I decided to go with a Class 4 stone covered steel roofing material because of a 50 year warranty. Both Bingham and Cook assured us that Soderburg Roofing were experienced with steel roofs and produced literature that gave us the options for color and style. I told both Bingham and Cook numerous times during our meetings that I wanted the roof done before August 31, 2023 because that is when our insurance policy expired. Bingham assured us that it would be no problem, our roof was only 2-3 weeks out. The roofing estimate was based on a copy of the insurance adjusters estimated damage of 5/30/23. That insurance adjusters estimate included the house roof, the separate shed roof, window damage, and gutter and downspout damage. Soderburg Roofing came back with the estimate, which I signed on June 15, 2023. July '23 passed with no action from Soderburg. I started calling Soderburg's office Aug 15, 2023 looking for answers. I made 5 calls. no resolution. A partial load of roofing materials was delivered in Sept '23 and later installed. They didn't have enough roofing to do my shed, but they had torn off the asphalt shingles and installed the underlayment, which is now coming up in places. I made 7 calls in Sept & 3 in Oct to get the job done

We have been in contact with the homeowner about the status of the material needed.  There have been 16 emails between the homeowner, Soderburg Roofing and the supply company about the status of the material.  Soderburg Roofing has spoken tot he homeowner on the phone on several occasions letting him know the status of the material and apologizing for the delay however we are at the mercy of the material manufacturer and the supplier for the material needed.  If the material is not made and shipped we as the contractor can not install it.  See below email thread.

This complaint is still not resolved.  I'm sorry I missed responding earlier.

Supposedly the roofing material is in ***************** at the distributor's yard, and supposedly the distributor is or has scheduled a delivery of said material to my house. as of 11/8/23.

I am still awaiting word when said delivery will take place and when the roofing will put on my shed and the "*****" will be sealed from birds and insects.

      Today is 11/14/23 at 7:59am

      Sincerely,

      H ***************************

Homeowner has been involved in all communication from supplier regarding the deliver of the material.  Material was delivered during the holiday week when i was off with family.  The metal crew has been on an install for the last week and is set to be completed.  ***************** job could not be schedualed for install until metal was on the ground.  Metal install crew is currently schedualed to finish the current install on Friday 12/01/23 or Saturday 12/2/23 and is schedualed to install **************** on 12/5/23 weather permitting.  I am sorry for all of the delays however we are at the mercy of the suppliers and the materials needed to compete the work.

I hired Soderburg to replace our roof via an insurance claim. Everything seemed great prior to the work being done. Leo was outstanding. Then the re-roof… the material were dropped in our driveway without any prior notice and when the crew showed up unannounced, no one came to the door or anything. They just hopped on our roof and started banging away. I work from home, often on calls, so would’ve been nice to know the plan so I could make arrangements. There were issues with ordering certain parts. Fine, we can deal with delays. Things had to be “Re-ordered” though. So more delays. Then when complete, we noticed a few areas in the front of our house that got torn apart from the roof crew being too rough and taking chunks of wood out of the siding. They provided a small cash back amount to repair this. I wasn’t happy but again, fine, I’ll deal with it. This was during the winter, so we weren’t outside much, so we hadn’t noticed all of the damage to the wood siding in the back from when they tore of the old roof. The first big rain we had in the early spring, brought a massive leak in our kitchen. The had the roofers come out and look but we were told our siding had wood rot. Our general contractor and painters (and 2 additional contractors/companies) verified and provided pics of the damage up close, citing that no wood rot is present and the damage was caused by careless efforts to remove the old roof. There is a large hole in the siding above where the leak is. Not only does our freshly painted house now look terrible but there’s now multiple places with gaping holes and busted corners where the siding and roof meet. We’ve asked multiple times for an owner/decision maker to call us or come out to look at the damages and discuss it but now Leo and the owners of Soderburg refuse to call us back. I hope I don’t have to file a claim with our home owners insurance about this or seek legal help if we can’t resolve this. So disappointing.

      Business response

      06/27/2022

I want to first apologize for the delay in responding to you.  As the owner of Soderburg I take communicating with homeowners very seriously, as this is the only time I am involved with a project when there is an issue or concern that is not being addressed by the Project Manager.

It was never my intention as you stated in the complaint to "refuse to call you back".  As a small business owner, we must try and balance our home life and our company life however last week I had to take a few days off as my family has suffered the loss of my uncle (unexpectedly to a brain aneurysm), my grandma passed 4 days later, and my grandpa passed 5 days after that.
So, as you can imagine I needed a bit of time with my family and to process the loss our family is dealing with, everything else took a back seat.

I wanted to address your concerns with the rear of your home and the damage caused. You stated in the complaint that you had photos of the damage to the rear of the home, the photos you provided shows a total of 4 spots at the bottom of the siding that are damaged, which appears to be on the front of your home over the metal porch that was installed.  According to the notes on your account we issued you a check in the amount of $500 for those repairs to the siding on the front of the home.
I'm sorry that you were not happy with that solution, however Soderburg Roofing acknowledged there was a mistake and at that time you were in agreeance with the $500 check.

From the pictures you provided it appears that the functionality of the siding has not been compromised on the front of the home and we have acknowledged and provide you with compensation.

With my 10+ years of experience, I am still surprised if/when we have a leak, water takes the path of least resistance, and the leak could be coming from the smallest spot that did not get sealed or got missed with caulking.

Our crews do their very best with every installation but the are human and mistakes happen every day.  I’m sure you understand that mistakes happen with installations as I am sure you have had mistakes happen on jobsite with solar installations.

As of today, (06/27/22) after speaking with the project manager (Leo) he stated that he has been in communication with you recently and has made an appointment with you and our roofer to be at your property today (06/27/22) or tomorrow (06/28/22) to reevaluate where the leak is coming from.

In the complaint to the BBB you stated that you had another general contractor, painter’s and 2 additional contractors out to provide pictures “up close” to confirm that the damage was done by Soderburg’s carless install.
Please provide those photos and documentation as it pertains to the back of the home/Kitchen where the leak is located so the issues can be reviewed and addressed if the damage was caused by Soderburg.

Email me directly at ******************************** with all photos of damage to the back of the homes siding and the damage to the kitchen.

      Thank you,
      Stefany D***
