We have hired Best Masonry to construct a retaining wall with stairs and sidewalk at our residence. We agreed on the price of $15,500 with Best Masonry providing all materials except the wall finishing materials. We later expanded the scope by extending the wall length and agreed to pay additional $2,000 for the extra work. We paid the initial deposit of $1,000 on 04/06/2022. We've made the following payments: $6,000 on 4/20, $5,000 on 5/13 and $4,500 on May 25th, total of $16,500. We agreed to pay the remaining $1,000 upon installing final finishing caps. All payments have been made by check. Few day after the wall was finished we started noticing the individual stones moving and spreading apart and we began being concerned that the wall may not be stable. We called the owner of Best Masonry and he came on June 6th to take a look and agreed to fix the issue by building the proper retaining wall behind the existing wall. Unfortunately, the wall collapsed onto our driveway on June 11th. We called the owner right away and he agreed to come by that day, but never did. He called on June 13th and stated that he is looking for an excavator to clean out the debris. As or June 14th the owner has not showed up.
