New roof and skylight replaced on November 24, 2021. On May 30, 2022 (6 months after install) we saw water stains on our hall ceiling and notified Bob via text. He came on May 31, 2022 to view the roof. Bob's professional opinion was the water stains are from condensation and to have continuous venting installed. Showed Bob pics of new roof with heat loss where water stains are. Pic of old roof with frost and no heat loss. Did not make sense what Bob suggested. Hired a roofer who inspected the roof and said the skylight was not installed properly and we have 2 other issues due to this on the roof. Need a new roof and skylight. Paid $11,350. Bob's attitude is not my problem. After we informed him of the 2 roofers findings all he said was I will talk to my partner (Mike, his son) and get back to you. Sent certified letter. The 2 times Bob went on the roof he never took a tool (as the other roofers did) to access the problem, just a phone to take pictures of the skylight. We are asking for a rebate of $5,000 to be applied to the new roof & skylight we now need at a cost of $14,000. Price came from a local licensed roofer ($11,950 roof, $1,860 skylight). This does not include repairs to the interior ceiling. Although he has a 5 year warranty on his workmanship, at this point we do not trust him and we need to replace the roof and skylight.

to whom it may concern Tell us why here...

I am  responding to ***** ********* complant.  in May i made a home inspection of there roof.

she said that they had a condensation problem in the winter.

i could only find that the soffits may not have enough intake to help the air move under roof decking.

i suggested to add more soffit vents. I left, then about 2 weeks later she call again, so i revisited took picture of the areas she claim to have problems with.

i said that i would come out and remove some ridge vent to see if clogs or something?

they said no i was unwell to do anything, just give them 4000. to 5000 dollars.

i told them i would talk to my partners, and get back to them.  we came up with a no on the money.

i also contacted the skylight company to have them inspect my install , *** and ***** said no to that also!

the roof did not leak, we only removed the old roof and installed a new roof.  which we do all the time!  we did replace 10 sheets of bad plywood decking, and did so at a discount price.

I do not know if the old roof leaks stained their  ceiling.  but we did not do anything to change the structure of the house.

not sure what the answer is to  resolve  this conflict?

we did come back after talking to our lawyer, whom said it might be wise to offer $1000. so i offered$1500!  He said it may take the headache away!

they said no to that as well!

We have been in business for 40 year, never had a problem like this!

we feel we did everything in our power to put up a good roof!

We stand on our reputation as a quality company, willing  to go the extra to make it right!

Thank you for hearing my side!  sorry you the poor English sentences!

      sincerely,

      Bob Nelson

president of Nelson Roof and Siding Inc.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I am responding to Bob Nelsons comments:

As I mentioned in my original compliant when we noticed the water stains on our hall ceiling on May 30, 2022 – 6 months after installation (that were not there prior to his installation of the new roof, which we have proof thereof).

I texted Bob and when he arrived the next day, I said it might have happened in the winter and could it be condensation?  When he advised me we needed to hire someone to install additional soffit venting I questioned this immediately, as the prior roof was on our home for 24 years and this was not needed.  I showed him pictures of the frost on the roof he installed and in the center of the roof you can clearly see heat loss, as there is no frost in this area, which is directly above our hall ceiling.  In the picture of the former roof Bob replaced I had a picture showing no heat loss and I asked him why; but he did not give me an answer.

We hired two independent roofers to tell us what the issue was is with the roof.  Both agreed additional venting was not warranted.  The vents were blocked at the area of the skylight which was not installed properly by Bob.  Due to this again we now have additional issues with our roof, and it needs to be replaced long with the skylight.

Had Bob said this should not have happened and that he would take care of it, we would have let him do so.  However, his attitude was “all we did was put on a new roof ”.  Adding additional venting would take care of the problem.

How can I have someone work on my home when he only offered to do so after we notified him of the independent roofers findings and feels he did not do anything wrong.  I would like to sue him for the entire cost of the job, but since we will be taking him to small claims court the limit is $5,000.00.

We will see Bob in court.

      Sincerely,

      ******** *******
