Original transaction date 04/08/2024- Ordered floor to ceiling pantry unit for $3200.00, placed a $1600.00 deposit down on our credit card, was told unit would be finished on 06/15/2024- but would be called before then to give a paint sample for finished unit, was never contacted so went in on 06/15/2024 to check on order-was told that it was not even finished being milled yet and we would be contacted as soon as it was ready - was not given a date timeframe, was told there were 3 orders ahead of us. Went back on on 07/13/2024, told again that there were 3 orders ahead of us and IT WAS NOT FINISHED. Went in again on 08/17/2024, and 09/21/2024, still same excuse and no finished product or date when it would be finished, went in today to see about our order and was told that he would refund us our deposit because he was tired of being asked about when unit would be finished, he asked if we had the credit card on us that we made deposit with and we told him yes he then played around on his computer stating he doesn't really know how to credit our card for the deposit and he would have to give us a check which sounded fishy to us, he then was starting to calculate the credit to issue a check and stated that we would be debited out of our deposit for sales tax that he had already paid to the state, I said that was completely unacceptable and I wanted my complete deposit in which he stated that was not going to happen, we would have to file paperwork with the state to get the balance. There was no sale of an item, the item was never produced, and I wanted my credit/debit card credited. He said I could just get out if I was going to get loud, which he was the one raising his voice at us. He never gave us the refund and we have nothing to show for our $1600.00 and 6 months of our time waiting. How does he stay in business if this is how he runs it?Initial Complaint

This company has many complaints about consumers getting ripped off and now Im one of them. I put a deposit down on a cabinet and its almost a year and haven't received it when the owner said 8 weeks. I called about 4 times and got the same answer just like everyone else, Im working on it. This place should be shut down. I originally made a deposit of $200 in June 2022 for Barewood to supply a chest of drawers. In October 2022 we agreed to a change order to build a bookshelf instead. Months went by of repeated emails and phone calls in which the owner said he had taken ill but he'd get to my bookshelf right away. That never happened so finally in September 2023 he agreed to refund my deposit of $200 and there have been more emails since in which he says he will do so, but never does. December 30th 2022 a piece of furniture was ordered from bare wood furniture in ******. We were told that it was an “Amish made” piece from the US. We were told that piece would be American hardwood.We were told that the piece would be delivered in 2-6 weeks. We paid extra to have the piece color matched to a sample we supplied. After 6 weeks we contacted bare wood to find out the status of the piece of furniture. We were told item was in production. It has taken 13 weeks for the piece of furniture to arrive. When I first inspected the piece I noticed that it was not color matched. I also identified multiple damages and defects to the piece. I noticed a sticker on the back of the piece that said manufactured in Vietnam. My wife and I went to the store to voice our complaints and were met with nothing but resistance and lies and condescension to my wife. The “owner” Kevin was rude and belligerent to my wife and she ended up leaving the store to wait outside.Business response

Dear BBB,
I received your letter today regarding complaint ********. I have reached out to the customer and offered them a refund. I would like to state for the record that this customer's accounting was completely wrong with the facts. Firstly, we proudly tell all our customers that about 60% of our furniture is Amish made, but not all. I never told this customer his particular piece was an Amish made item. 2ndly, I NEVER quoted 2-6 weeks for a custom piece that had to be shipped from ************ **. With all the COVID delays we are still experiencing extended delay times, but even if that was not the case we have hundreds of pieces we are working on at any given time and customers have to wait their turn in line, especially when we have to custom color match a piece.
When the customer came in and looked over the piece he pointed out some issues with the finishing and we agreed with his assessment and both decided we would send the piece back to the finisher to correct any issues, which was done. This correction cost us extra money and time but we guarantee our finish so we were happy to correct the color issues.
At the time these customers came in I had another group in the store, after the complainants left the people who were here and observed the interaction could not believe how rude this customers wife was and commended us for remaining professional and calm. We try hard to do right by people, but sometimes you just can't please everyone, no matter how hard you try.
I have left a voicemail with the customer today offering them a refund.Customer response

September 2021, we purchased entertainment center, 2 end units with center unit, bridge to connect 2 end units. We received 1 piece January 2022 only because it needed staining, the end units have not been completed as of 10/20/22. Explanation given is he only has 2 days to work on them in shop. paid over $3500 to date. still taking on new work without completing past order, I think it should be listed as buyer beware. He might be closing or looking to file Bankruptcy.
