Initial repair(?) done on 07/14/22. The repair was to replace a chunk of cement that had fallen off front porch steps. In June, 2023 repaired portion of step completely fell apart and dropped to the ground. I have been in touch with Mr. Handyman several times since. Their own rep who came out to look at the job admitted it was not done properly. I want my money back. They insist they only redo work and do not give refunds. There is nothing in writing regarding not giving refunds which I feel is clearly misleading. I tried to dispute my payment but was told there was a 60 day time frame. I do not trust they would repair a second time properly and no longer wish to do any business with them. To not clearly state their refund policy in writing on a document I signed is unethical if not illegal. I am not willing to just let this go and do nothing to defend myself. I want a refund of the $400.00 I paid.

We offered to fix the issue. She refused and stated she wanted her money back almost a year after the job was completed.

Sorry I did not see the original complaint.

      Thanks,

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: I did not wait 11 months deliberately.  The "job". that was done LITERALLY fell apart AFTER 11 months passed.  I stated I wanted my money back because I had no faith that the job would be completed in a satisfactory manner the second time.  The company's own representative that looked at my porch admitted the job was not done properly.  I think it is bare minimum unethical, if not illegal, to not disclose refund policy to the consumer at the time the job is arranged.  I will bring this complaint to the ***** ** *** ******** ******* if I am not given a refund.

      Sincerely,

      ******* ** ********

We hired this business to rehab our front porch that was rotted and in need of repair. An associate came to our home and gave us a quote of $2,305 for wood and labor (we supplied composite materials for the decking, steps and risers). On the first day of demo, we were charged $837.50 and told this was for materials and labor. I paid on the spot and in full. The job took about 17 hours over the course of several days, and once completed, was totally unsatisfactory. The post on one side is hanging over the decking and clearly not plum as visible from the street, the corners are not square, the cuts are crooked, and they filled in their poor craftsmanship with caulk. I had noticed some of the poor cuts during construction and brought it up, and the worker told me not to worry, and that it would be "seamless" upon completion. Additionally, our railing was removed and a screw was left hanging out of the post where it had been attached. Based on this, I was not willing to pay the workers our remaining balance (which had increased by $1,000 to $3,300 total!) upon completion. I contacted the owner and ask that he come and review the work. He did so, with another seasoned carpenter, and agreed to fix the job at no additional cost. We all agreed on every piece to be replaced and fixed. I also agreed to pay the remaining balance in full upon satisfactory completion of the job. However, Jeremiah called me today (over a week later) and indicated instead that he did not "trust" that I would pay the balance, and requested it in full before he would send a worker back to our home. I did not agree to this as I would have no guarantee that the work would be adequately repaired. I offered to pay half of the remaining balance with the rest at satisfactory completion, and Jeremiah said no. Now, only after my paying in full would he agree to the needed repairs. Since we could not reach an agreement, we parted ways and now I need to find someone else to fix my porch.

      Regarding the customer in question.

We tried to resolve the issue, but the customer was not calm or reasonable when spoken to.

I tried to explain that we would come and fix the issues that she was concerned about but would have to pay the balance owed $2530.00 before we would come back. She had only paid at that point $837.50, and we had basically rebuilt the whole porch and they had only hired us to replace the stair treads and decking. The material cost for us was $907.50 so she didn’t even cover the cost for the material. When I told her this, she said that she would pay us after we fixed the issue if it was up to her standards. Our company policy is that we are to be paid at the end of each day and when she told me this, I did not trust that she would pay us for the rest of the job. We guarantee our work, this is not right. I will send you the pictures and quote for the job. We went above and beyond, and that porch was in horrible shape.
