I would absolutely never recommend anyone allow their loved one to enroll in Empath Hospice. My mother was diagnosed by a hospice doctor with bone cancer. No oncologist was involved in this diagnosis. She was put on pain medications and eventually was moved to a nursing home. Hospice had been bathing her and providing sanitary wipes and incontinence products. At the nursing home hospice stopped providing bathing and incontinence products. The nursing home told me I had to provide sanitary wipes otherwise they used a washcloth or paper towels. The last few months of my mothers life hospice hardly came to see her. She was ignored by the aides at the nursing home, I asked hospice to provide a better bed, volunteer help with grooming and most importantly eating. They completely ignored these requests, She was put in her very uncomfortable wheelchair everyday with no supervision and not even a working TV. The last few weeks of her life hospice and the nursing home tried to keep me from visiting her. They didnt want me to comfort and try to make them stop treating her with total distain. She showed great strength of character and in her last hours was able to spend her last thoughts with me and her love. lWhen I left she was wheeled back into her room to die alone in her wheelchair. This was hospice twisted idea of palliative care and the nursing home carried their sick behavior, I was told by hospice that when my mother passed away they would not call me. Thankfully the nursing home did call. I was allowed to see her in her room at last out if the wheelchair and at peace. Im sure that after all her suffering she was at last in the arms if our Lord away from the instruments of her torture age disease and the cruelty of harshness and neglect at the hands of her caregivers.
