I had a new roof installed 2/2022. Roof developed a leak 12/2023 and caused damage to a section of the inside ceiling. Contacted Roof Doctors to get the roof repaired. By the way the owner of this company has absolutely no people skills and no idea on how to treat a client. He had me talk with one of their foremen's. I was told the repair would take one plus days. We would need 80 - 90 new roof tiles. Then told they couldn't get the tiles because the order was under the wholesaler's minimal order and they didn't want to pay for extra tiles. Then all of sudden they were able to get 20 new tiles, no longer needed the 80 tiles and now the job would take 3 - 4 hours to fix. After reading all the negative reviews and the fact they lost their accreditation from the BBB I decided to contact another roofer working in our neighbor. He explained how they would do the repair step by step to ensure the leak was repaired properly. When I asked the foremen should we be doing these steps the reply was "it wasn't necessary". I felt all they wanted to do was put a bandage on the leak, move on and spend the least amount of money to make the repair. I hired the other roofer and paid him out of my pocket. I'm glad I did they showed me pictures of the leak that was caused by Roof Doctors. They installed sections of the roof and then cut the tiles in place. By doing this they cut through the new underlayment which then leaked. It leaked from the very beginning just took 18 months for it to get bad enough to do real damage. It took the new company 10 hours with a 3-man crew to repair the roof. They also had a man in the attic as they hosed down the open roof to make sure they found all the leaks. Roof Doctors told me when I asked them about hosing the roof "it was necessary". Do yourself a favor and never use this company!Business response

On 12-30-2022, I contracted with Roof Doctors (contract #****) to repair/reconstruct sun room that was torn apart by hurricane ***. Contract was to be "All inclusive" which was to include requesting the appropriate building permits as is the norm when hiring a general contractor in *******. Contract was to be completed by January 23, 2023. The contract #**** was of a total price of $19,920 of which I paid $13,280 in two payments. A second contract (contract #****) was entered in on 1-21-2023 to repair the roof with 30yr shingles. The required building permit was also included in the contract as this is the norm when hiring a general contractor in *******. The contract #**** was of a total price of $2,000 of which $650 was paid for on signing. On February 9, 2023 a code compliance agent left a note stating that the work site had no building permit for the work. This was the first time I learned that Roof Doctors did not apply for the required building permits. I have been ever since trying to get Roof Doctors to file for the proper building permits and complete the work although unsuccessfully. As of today, Roof Doctors has not even file for a single building permit. I was/am facing a hearing before the ********************* Enforcement Special Magistrate that was originally schedule for September 6th, 2023 that has been postponed to a later date yet to be determined.Business response

I am rejecting this response because: I am not sure what Roof Doctors is disputing regarding this contract (attached). This is perfect evidence of a contract between the parties, the contract is written on paper with Roof Doctors marking as well as several communications with Roof Doctors employees acknowledging the contract. Without specifics regarding what about this contract they are disputing, it is difficult to engage in a constructive exchange.

We hired Roof Doctors LLC to repair our roof trusses and replace the metal roof damaged by Hurricane Ian. RD rep assured that trusses are should be done in 2-3 weeks. The start date was March 27th 23 with 30 % deposit ($19500) paid on March 24th. No work was done, no materials delivered, and no permit was submitted in 30 days after. They rescheduled many times, finally April 28th the Englewood PM texted that they cannot start the project because they let go 2 crews. He promised to refund in 2 days. No refund was done and Englewood office disappeared. We called the head office but we’ve been told that the owner will contact us and the line was drop. May 12 we sent a registered Letter of Demand for Refund to RD Head office but with no reasonable response in 30 days after delivery date. Instead, RD started sending us abusive messages on email and Facebook, calling us fraudful people, *********, blaming in lying to our insurance and fraud. Likely the purpose of these messages was to provoke us to terminate the contract. This behavior is both unfair and unprofessional, unacceptable for a licensed contractor. June 19th 2023 RD issued a partial permit not sufficient to start a project, as a separate permit is required for the structural tresses repairs. We contacted RD but didn’t receive any response. In front of coming hurricane season we had to terminate the project and look for someone else to do the job. July 15 our attorney sent to RD a legal refund demand. The request was rejected by the company owner. We didn’t receive any suggestions from the company to resolve the situation, though we made few more attempts to communicate the settlement. In response we received a sarcastic email from the owner saying that they are not allowed to respond by our attorney (totally not true). Clearly, the company has the intention of holding our money without providing a service. We are asking BBB to help in resolving our issue and getting the deposit refund from Roof Doctors LLC.Business response

This client has contradicted every statement since we engaged in Contracting with them, from the beginning. We sent their insurance carrier all the documents to re-up their status and make them eligible. Within a week, we (Roof Doctors) were told by said client to stop. We pulled all Permits & were sent by their attorney a stop & Desist letter?Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:Regarding the Insurance – we have never authorized Roof Doctors to submit anything to our insurance company, so they could not do this. There is no any dependency on the Insurance in our project. According to RD representative in Englewood, the reason for the delay was the lack of labor.
Regarding the permit – only a partial permit for the roof top replacement was issued on June 19th, that was not sufficient to start the project. The roof replacement is the last step of the project and can not be done without the broken trusses repairs that requires a separate framing permit that RD never applied for it.
We didn’t request Roof Doctors to stop until they totally failed to comply with the Florida Law requirement to receive all required permits. The request for refund was sent by our attorney only on July 15th, more than 3 months later after Florida Construction Law deadline and 1 month later after the last settlement deadline. We have been forced to do this because we needed to complete the roof repairs before the upcoming Hurricane season, as we could not stay with the broken roof but RD was holding our money for almost half of a year doing nothing except sending us personally insulting messages.
We have done multiple attempts to move on with the project. Even after RD representative in Englewood informed us on April 28th that the project can not be started in time because RD laid off 2 main crews and suggested to return the deposit, we were still willing to continue working on pay after it’s done base and confirmed it in writing. However, nothing was done by RD to proceed.
If we would previously cancelled a project (within a week according to RD response), then how they could pull a partial permit on June 19th for cancelled project?
We have made one more attempt to proceed, following Charlotte County advice and forwarded another registered letter to RD o on Aug 4th 20223 offering to issue the required permits before September 1st and start the project or refund the money. This offer was rejected by Roof Doctors and we didn’t receive any updates from them since that except multiple aggressive, personally insulting and threatening messages received from Roof Doctors LLC.
This clearly confirms that Roof Doctors LLC is determined to hold our deposit without providing a service. At this point we request the full refund our deposit.
Sincerely,
***** *******Business response

Roof Doctors was requested by client to send revised documentation for their Mortgage Company to ensure proper coverages. We revised documents 3 different times on bequest of client. We have jumped through hoops multiple times for client, each time another hoop appears. Everytime we agree on moving forward, another glitch by the homeowner. It's beyond puzzling?Customer response

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:Neither of the statements is correct.
1. No revisions has been made to our contract since we have paid a deposit in March. The original estimate offered by Roof Doctors was accepted without any negotiations. The only change we made to the estimate – the metal roof was changed to aluminum, that was suggested by PM (Tim Kjos) as a better option. This increased the total contract value and the deposit amount from 17.5K to 19.5 K, that was fully paid.
After that no contract revisions was ever requested, we attached both original and final contract version.
2. Our Mortgage company was never involved. The only time we mentioned it – when we requested a RECEIPT for the paid deposit to provide it to our mortgage to explain our expenses – not in order to receive the coverage as RD says. We never asked for any revisions moving forward and always been very consistent and clear in our intentions. The requested invoice is attached – same as the signed estimate.
We can provide prove of all the above. At this point we request RD to prove their statements and provide the evidence when they try to accuse us.
Sincerely,

I ENTERED INTO A CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY TO REPAIR MY ROOF, MY GUTTERS, SOME SIDING, AND SKIRTING ON NOVEMBER 13, 2022. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BEGIN THE WORK THE FOLLOWING WEEK AND I SUBMITTED MY FIRST PAYMENT OF $4,733.00. THE FOLLOWING WEEK A YOUNG MAN AND HIS WIFE APPEARED IN THEIR CAMPER TO DO THE WORK. HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD BEENN TOLD HE COULD HOOK ONTO MY ELECTRIC AND USE MY WATER. THIS WAS THE FIRST JOB HE HAD TAKEN FROM THIS COMPANY SO HIS KNOWLEDGE WAS LIMITED TO SAY THE LEAST. HE WORKED ON THE ROOF FOR ABOUT THREE DAYS, BUT CONTINUED TO STAY TO HOOK ONTO MY ELECTRIC FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS AS HE AND HIS WIFE WENT OUT DUMP PICKING FROM HOMES THAT HAD BEEN DESTROYED BY THE HURRICANE. WHILE HE WAS HERE HE DROPPED A CEMENT BLOCK O MY TREX DECK BREAKING A BOARD, AND HE THREW THE. WATERPROOF SEALANT CANS DOWN FROM THE ROOF LEAVING WHITE MARKS AND SPOTS ON SEVERAL OTHER BOARDS. HE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO CLEAN UP BEFORE HE LEFT AND JUST THREW NAILS AND METAL EVERYWHERE RESULTING IN A PUNCTURED TIRE ANND A TETANUS SHOT FOR ONE OF MY WORKERS. WHEN WE HAD A HEAVY RAIN, I STILL HAD LEAKS WHICH STOPPED ALL WORK ON THE INSIDE OF ONE LEVEL OF THE HOUSE. MY SECOND PAYMENT WAS TO HAVE BEEN WHEN THEY STARTED THE WORK AND I EXPLAINED THAT BEFORE I PAID THEY NEEDED TO ACESS THE DAMAGE TO MY DECK AND THE COST OF REPAIRING IT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN OFF THE BILL. THE REP AGREED AND MADE PLANS TO COME OUT AND SEE THE DAMAGES. HE NEVER SHOWED UP. I CONTINUED TO CALL HHIM, HE NEVER ANSWERED AND WOULD NOT RESPOND. BETWEEN ME AND MY WORKER, WHO IS TRYING TO FINISH THE INSIDE OF MY HOUSE, WE HAVE CALLED THE REP AND THHE MAIN COMPAY AT LEAST 50 TIMES. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WE HAVE RECEIVED TEXTS SAYING THEY'D BE THERE THE NEXT WEEK OR THE NEXT DAY, THEY NEVER SHOWED. THE LACK OF GUTTERS IS REDAMAGING AREAS OF THE FLOOR THAT I'VE ALREADY FIXED, I'M CONCERNED ABOUT ANIMALS GOING UNDER THE HOUSE DESTROYING MY NEW VAPOR LOCK, , I CAN'T RUN MY AC, AND MY HOUSE IS HALF DONE.Business response

I JUST GOR BACK FROM FLORIDA AND FIND YOU HAVE CLOSED MY COMPLAINT AGAINST ROOF DOCTORS. YOU SAY I DIDN'T RESPOND TO THE MAY 16TH RESPONSE. I'M 73 YEARS OLD, I'M NOT COMPUTER SAVY, I JUST PUT MY FAITH IN YOU TO HELP ME OUT. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE ROOF AFTER THEY WERE THERE FOR 2 DAYS. I ALSO HAVE PICTURES OF ALL THE THINGS THEY DIDN'T DO. I HAVE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET SOMEONE ELSE TO TRY TO REPAIR MY ROOF AND DAMAGES AT AN EXPENSE TO ME. MY ROOF WAS LEAKING, MY FLOORS WERE GETTING REDAMAGED, AND AFTER 6 MONTHS OF NO CONTACT FROM THEM, I HAD TO DO SOMETHING. NOW THEY'RE CALLING ME DEMANDING MORE MONEY FROM ME. I NEED YOUR HELP, PLEASE REOPEN THIS CASE AND HELP ME OUT, I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY THEM ANYMORE FOR WORK THEY DIDN'T DO, AND I JUST WANT MY HOUSE FIXED. I am rejecting this response because:I was in Florida for the past six weeks trying to deal with all of this, but I was unable to get anything accomplished. Like before they kept saying they'd call the guy, Tim, who I had contracted with and he'd call me and come out, he never did. My roof was still leaking, the skirting was off, the gutters were down, the carport roof was off and the house had to be taken care of before there was more damage done. I had to find someone else to do the work. He has begun the work, but he is not finished, and I am still unable to repair the rest of my house inside because I still have a problem with the gutters. I am trying to save my house, the roofing company has ignored me for over 6 months and I couldn't let this go any longer or I would lose the house to water damage. Now they're demanding that I pay them more money, and all they did was put down one coat of sealant, I've put down 6 coats of sealant filling in all the holes. One coat wasn't going to fix anything, and there's been no attempt to fix the gutter, siding, or skirting. Water was coming in the siding so I had that repaired. The deck that had a hole in it from a cement block that was dropped had to be fixed because if someone stepped in it they'd be hurt, so I went with the only option I could afford, replacing that one board. It doesn't match the other boards, but I couldn't afford to replace all the boards. In talking to the guy who they originally hired to do the work, I found that he too tried calling Tim many, many times. he requested more material to fix the roof and he was told to just use what they had given him. He knew it wasn't enough, and they didn't give him anything to fix the siding or the gutters or the carport pans, or the skirting so he couldn't do the work so he quit. This company has left me high and dry for over six months, and now they say they want to work with me????? I couldn't wait for them, especially when they didn't return phone calls or communicate in any way. I had to save my house, so after 5 months of nothing from them, I figured I was just out the 4,7000 I had given them, and the only thing I could do was to find someone else to fix things. My attorney told me I had a right to protect what i had from further damage and that's what I did.
Sincerely,
Linda RishelInitial Complaint

We hired them to do roofing repairs in Oct 2021 after we had a hurricane. We hired them to replace the skylights, silicone coat the roof, Replace roof panel, siding panel and trim and a gutter. We paid them almost $18,000 to do these repairs. After the repairs were done we had roof leaks. We called them and they agreed to come and look at it. At many failed promises nothing happened. We called them over 10 times to come and fix the problems. Their excuse towards the end was that they used 3rd party contractors to do the work and the contractors would not come out. Our argument is we paid them in full after the work was done and never was it disclosed to us that they were using 3rd party contractors and if we had any problems that they would not honor that commitment. We had the roof fixed by another company and had to spend $6000 more to get the job done right. We have asked Roof Doctors for reimbursement but have been ignored by the request.Business response

I am rejecting this response because: This repair was not made over 2 years ago. Our final payment was made to Roof Doctors on 4/12/22 when they finished the job. We started contacting them shortly after that as we noticed we had leaks in the sky lights. At 1st they said they were going to come out and fix it but that never happened. The Silicone coating has a 10 year warranty. If we contact them in 5 years with a leak they should honor that agreement.

We did send Lee Freels our Project Coordinator over to the property 2 years ago to examine the client's needs, however it was a flashing issue and another roofing contractor had been up on the roof as well and tampered with the Skylights in question. Roof Doctors has explained this situation multiple times to the client.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: This guy tells so many mistruth's that he can't keep up with his stories. They never told us that it was a flashing issue. We wanted the problem solved and we would have gotten it fix if that was the case. If he sent that guy 2 years ago this was before the hurricane even happened and obviously before we called him. I don't think this company was working in the Houma area before the hurricane happened. They wanted to make a quick buck after the hurricane. That they did.
Sincerely,
Todd Allendorph
