I feel bad for Floridians who's lives and property have no value to Anderson Columbia. Here's why I feel this way. As I can see with the other person's response, I'm pretty spot on with my statement. When companies are not held to the standards they agree to when they sign a Federal contract, they become complacent and this is when safety is taken for granted and accidents happen. Anderson Columbia Co., Inc. Claims that an accident on I-75 on March 26, 2021 at 2:35 AM is not their fault. The accident occurred because a traffic barrel that was in the middle lane of traffic, well outside of the area of work. The 2 lanes on either side, were open as well. Per FDOT regulation 102-3.2, Anderson Columbia Co., Inc. is to have a traffic supervisor..."3. On site during all nighttime operations ensuring proper temporary traffic control." If they did, this barrel should have been seen well before it was hit by my car. If my daughter who was driving, had swerved, she would have hit another vehicle, possibly causing injury or death to a herself or another. The disregard that Anderson Columbia Co., Inc. has shown over the past year of correspondence with me, makes me worry for the safety of any project they are on and the callous disregard for the lives that could be forever changed due to their negligence. In one correspondence, Mr. Akers stated that the actual responsible party is whomever hit the barrel into the open lane of traffic. This was also supported in additional correspondence from Mark C. Resler of Anderson Columbia Co., Inc.. Is Columbia Anderson Co., Inc. stating that if someone did this, they should stop their vehicle in an active lane of travel and place the barrel back where it should be? At what cost? Does someone have to lose their life for ACCI to take their responsibility as an FDOT contractor seriously? As a government contractor, they have a responsibility to the people of Florida to maintain a safe work environment not just for their employees.
