I hired ********************************* from Hartwell Hardwood on 4/1/22. He was to replace my kitchen flooring and refinish my hardwoods. I sighed the contract that day. He was to start the project on 6/23/22. On 4/4/22 he requested $1000 to order the wood needed for the kitchen. I paid him that amount via Venmo. Fast forward to June 2022. He asked if he could start on 6/27 instead of 6/23. Then another delay to 6/29. Then he never showed up. Apparently he was in jail. I then requested he return my $1000 or deliver the wood that it was used to purchase, I have received neither. He would not return my text messages or take my calls. So, I went to the sheriffs department and an officer contacted him on 7/11/22, he promised the officer and myself he would return the $1000, to this date he has not and is again not returning my correspondence. I want the money back for the wood I purchased, which he admitted he did not have in his possession on 7/11/22, but was supposed to install on 6/23/22. I believe he never intended to purchase the wood with my $1000 and want my money or the wood I am owed.Initial Complaint

***** has taken many months to complete a project that should have taken weeks. He did not show up-repeatedly-when he said he would. He was regularly dishonest about the work he did/did not complete. We had to go to the house every time he came to ensure he did what he said. We eventually asked him to leave (1/14) and gave the job to someone else. When we asked ***** to give the floor finish (which we paid for) to the new contractor, he refused and threatened to put a lien on our house until he was paid for the job. We decided to pay him for the work he actually completed. He agreed, in writing, to give the floor finish to the new contractor upon receipt of payment. Once he was paid, he continued to give the new contractor trouble and we eventually learned ***** had not purchased the material at all. He had lied about having it and lied about giving it to us once he received payment. Unfortunately, the money was sent via zelle and cannot be retracted. The material he said he purchased Bona Traffic HD. We would have needed 6-7 gallons to complete the project. This costs approximately $800-$900. We now have to purchase the finish again. And we have been delayed even further by his dishonestly and theft. In adding the screenshots below, I now realize ***** continually refused to reply to the group textshe his responses dont match up with the questions.
