I am submitting this formal complaint regarding an unresolved electrical issue with Georgia Power, and I am seeking assistance in obtaining a fair resolution. My name is ********* ******, and I recently experienced a service failure that has left me without power. A Georgia Power representative visited my residence to address three wires that were laying on my roof. However, instead of repairing the issue, the representative cut the wires and left, leaving the problem unresolved. This action has not only failed to restore power but has also exacerbated the situation. As a result of this negligence, I am requesting that Georgia Power send a qualified representative to properly complete the necessary repairs. Additionally, I seek compensation for the losses I have incurred due to this incident. Specifically, I request the following: A credit from Georgia Power equal to the amount of my most recent bill. Reimbursement for the groceries I have lost due to the extended power outage caused by their representative’s actions. I believe these requests are reasonable given the circumstances, and I trust that Georgia Power will take swift action to rectify the situation. Your assistance in facilitating this resolution would be greatly appreciated.Business response

I processed a payment on 9/23/2024 on Georgia Power website using a option of Amazon Pay. Well in doing so I noticed the money had not came out my bank account the following morning. I checked with Amazon Pay and noticed they used a card that had been removed from my account for an extended period of time. I contacted ****** and am told they can't cancel the payment as it would have to be through ga power. I contact ga power and speak with ****** and am told there is no way possible to stop a payment even tho it is fraudulant considering it is someone else's card. I ask for a manager and am told it could take two days. I need the payment on my account cancelled so that I can process the payment using my own card.Initial Complaint

A few months ago, we sold our residence and acquired a newly constructed home. Our former property was situated at **************************************. Following the notification of the impending sale, we reached out to all relevant utility providers to request a transfer of services effective July 26, 2024. I specifically contacted Georgia Power, as our annual flat rate bill was set to renew in July. The representative advised me to call back on July 15 with a confirmed disconnection time and to ensure payment of our upcoming bill amounting to $378. According to the representative, no further charges would be incurred on the account. However, we subsequently received a bill dated 6 Sep. 2024, at our new address, *******************************************, totaling $576.94. In response, we contacted Georgia Power to clarify the reason for this unexpectedly high final bill. The representative informed us that the flat rate had been renewed for another year starting July 1, 2024. Consequently, an additional charge of $200 was applied to the original $376 bill, resulting in the total of $576.94. The representative further stated that their investigation revealed no record of a request to cancel the flat rate, thus holding us accountable for the full amount, including a $7.00 collection fee. I contend that Georgia Power is unjustly overcharging me, particularly after receiving confirmation from a representative that our account had a zero balance prior to our move. I insist that they rectify this billing issue immediately, as it appears to be a recurring practice by the company over the years. I request the removal of these additional fees.Customer response

Ms. ******* thank you for making us aware of the concerns. We had the opportunity to review all account details and did not notice any billing errors. Records indicate there was a Flatbill balance owed due to the difference of actual usage vs what was paid. There is not a process in place to adjust this balance because it is the actual usage for the home. We apologize for any inconvenience this matter has caused.Customer response

The issue is in regards to the mentioned flat bill. We sold our home and moved to a new address. They add two hundred additional dollars to the bill due to their flat bill renewal. Flat bill runs for a year and Georgia power renewed it despite telling them that my home was sold. Therefore, the information is incorrect. As I stated, I would pay and resolve the bill immediately once the additional charge was removed. So, my final payment or bill would be $375. I have made a concerted effort to resolve this issue and wish that they would work with me as well to fix the problem.

*** ******, there were no errors determined. To avoid the Flatbill difference, the program should have been cancelled prior to the disconnect date (7/26). There was a message on the June bill indicating what the new Flatbill rate would be and there was an opportunity to cancel. There are no adjustments owed to the account at this time.Customer response

Complaint: 22283823
I am rejecting this response because: As we stated previously, we requested the stoppage of the flat rate. The business is not trying to resolve the issue. All I ask is that they remove the flat bill charge and I would pay the difference immediately. There was no need to restart a flat bill if I sold my home and moved to a new location. It makes no sense and it is a shame how Georgia Power treats its customers. Just charging excessive rates to average consumers and unwilling to help in any way as many customers have continued to complain.
