Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation, a subsidiary of ******************** has been selling macadamia nuts that are presented to be originating from ******, but they are using foreign macadamia nuts in their packages. To substantiate these allegations, a forensic science testing company called ******* was enlisted. In 2023, ******* collected samples of macadamia nuts grown in ****** to develop a specific tracing methodology for these nuts. They conducted an audit of several brands. This audit revealed that 25% of the sampled Mauna Loa roasted and salted macadamia nut packages, procured from various retail locations, contained nuts of foreign origin. The following were found to be of foreign origin in October 2023:1.Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Unsalted Macadamias, purchased from Target, ************************************************************************* 96814.2.Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Unsalted Macadamias, purchased from ******** 94-******************************************************, 96797.3.Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut ******** Sea Salt Macadamias, purchased from **************, ***********************************************************Mauna Loa dry roasted ******** Sea Salt Macadamias purchased from ******** *****************************************************************, 96782.5.Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Unsalted Macadamias, purchased from Target, 74-***********************************************************************, 96740.6.Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Unsalted Macadamias, purchased from ***********, **********************************************************, 96720.Based on these findings, Mauna Loa has violated the Tariff Act by using foreign-grown macadamia nuts in their 'Mauna Loa' branded dry roasted ******** Sea Salt macadamia nut product without labeling the country of origin. The Tariff Act mandates visible labels for each country of origin (other than **** origin) to allow consumers to make informed purchase decisions. I received a gift pack of six four once cups of macadamia nuts from my friend who purchased them from Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation and gifted them to me. He paid for all of these nuts and $15 for shipping to send me his holiday gifts. The nuts are all rancid. The ** date is 3-2025. I filed a complaint with the company and what they told me is really upsetting; considering their business standard and they do not offer for a better solution.
