I contracted with Steelmen Moving and More to have a 2-bedroom apartment and two 5x10 storage units moved on Wednesday, March 29th. The move was scheduled on February 21st, or five weeks in advance. Per the estimate provided by the owner, *********************, the move should have started at 9:00 am. When the movers had not arrived, I called first at 9:20 am and again at 9:45 am, after which I finally reached him. ************** claimed to not know where his movers were and said he would call them to find out. He called me back at 9:52 am and said they had been in an accident. I asked why I had not been called, and he said they were waiting for police to arrive and had decided to "handle things on their own."As a result of how this matter was handled, a 2nd team did not arrive to my apartment and get started until 12:30 pm, or three and half hours later than they should have. This ultimately meant that, because I was moving two hours away, there was not enough time to go to my storage facility and load my two 5x10 storage units. Without including my two storage units, the move was completed at the scheduled time of 5:00 pm. I was given a $70 discount on the use of rental wardrobes, and when I complained that this was insufficient, **, the team leader, told me that ************** would contact me to try to make things right. He never did.The original estimate for my entire move was $1299. I paid $910 plus $150 tip to be divided between three movers. To move the additional two 5x10 storage units I had to leave behind due to their extreme lateness, I will have to pay upwards of another $1,000. Due to the fact that this is due solely and exclusively to multiple failures on the part of Steelmen Moving, I am requesting that this company compensate me, in part or in full, for the time and money I have lost as a result of my efforts to correct the results of their poor handling of this situation.
