Our bank sold us overdraft protection like this: If your tv breaks, and you get a direct deposit payment on the same day each month, you can use that overdraft to get a new one, pay the fee, and it'll come out of your check. We have to use it monthly. Our only income is our sons SSI and foodstamps. It supplements our foodstamps so we can eat the rest of the month. There's a rumor locally that we 'dont deserve it' [the proffessionals signed us up without us asking...] and they are community stalking and harassing us over it. They DEMANDED we have at least 100 in an account that doesn't require it and wasted days of my time trying to intimidate me into keep our account that way when we cant afford it. They told me I was fine time and time again. I had wrote a civil rights complaint on the local dept. Suddenly I'm not fine, they're pulling it, and being very rude when I explain telling me they dont believe me. So I wrote a BBB complaint since they wasted almost two days of my time and have been causing daily contact I don't want. Well on the heels of the BBB complaint, I was sent a letter, being told they would be removing me account before I was ready. That was clearly because the received notification of the BBB Review. It came right after. So I wrote another review. I feel this was discrimination based on personal local bias because of our families poverty and autism. I feel the 'severance' however they try to spin it IS retaliation for writing the bbb. We've experienced similar harassment from other local business. They do discriminate target and even coerce people to work in this town through the local ssi, police departments, and banks. This bank did discriminate. We are disabled. And it's inconvenienced us to the point I'm begging family. I was told with promise of payment [which we have] we could use overdraft whenever. Have to deal with the maliciousness and abuse of processes interferes with my sons class and emotional distress is incapacitating.
