My wife and I were tenants of Mac Properties for 3 years. Our experience was awful from beginning to end. This company is solely motivated by profits, and they will dehumanize you and cut any corner possible.When we first were moving into the apartment, the day before we were supposed to move in, a Mac employee called us and said that our place wouldn't be ready for another two weeks. They said we could either cancel the lease or accept their temporary accommodations. We had no choice to delay our move and take the accommodations since we had a moving truck coming.When we finally moved in, the apartment was rank with fumes from the floor being refinished. There were dozens of repairs that needed to be done. After dealing with so many maintenance men who couldn't solve a problem, we bought materials and made fixes ourselves.While living in the building, we experienced so many issues. The elevator in our building was constantly down. Our heat went out frequently. Once we were double charged for rent and then charged late fees on not paying the second charge. We were mysteriously charged "fees" for months before someone told us we were missing a line of text on our insurance policy. The customer support rarely answered our phone calls, chat messages and emails, and problems took months to resolve.We moved out with 4 months left on our lease, and surrendered our keys. A Mac representative advised us to do this, and said that they would make an effort to lease the apartment so that we wouldn't have to pay for a vacant unit. Instead, *** advertised the availability date for our apartment to the day our lease ended, ensuring we paid the full amount. Furthermore, the sales **** giving tours left the lights on in our vacant apartment, resulting in only dollars of electrical charges. Mac had the audacity to send us the bill as well as a $50 late fee per month, $400 in total.Avoid this unethical, heartless company at all cost. They are a blight on the community.Review from Chris C

Do you want bed bugs? Then this is the property management company for you!The lack of functional dryers in their buildings has contributed to the spread of bed bugs through tenants using because they do not get hot enough to effectively kill eggs/adults off of ***************** - and it just cycles through every unit who uses those facilities. Hallways are likely infected as well.Do you want to look at used, bed bug infested, furniture in your lobby for a week? Then rent a MAC Properties Building!I wasn't even aware that other units on my floor were infested, despite requests for proof that other units are being effectively treated. I have spent close to a month's rent on preventative treatments on my personal property alone, and they can't even guarantee neighbors are being treated. They had to ask ME if I've had issues as well, because they've gotten no assistance.Their (very rude) desk person at the office location said that the building was inspected a week prior to my building, and nothing was found. However, I spoke to the extermination company and they told me that they do not treat for bed bugs unless tenants have a specific concern. Their representative lied to me.This building is predominantly ******-American or ****** Immigrant, and MAC Properties uses that to their advantage, hoping tenants won't know their rights as a tenant in the state to request proper treatments. They actively suppress dissemination of this information as well. I have been knocking on doors and leaving notes the best I can, but they are all removed by staff.The entire building is likely infested, and too far gone to appropriately treat for a permanent solution; all due to their inability to properly service (alleged) amenities and treat proactively.Stay far away from properties they own, or you'll be bankrupted trying to treat your belongings. How they haven't been dissolved for holding a monopoly on rental markets in cities in the Midwest is beyond comprehension.Review from Joan K

This building at ****************************** the tenants could not take hot showers for few days in December, some of us did not have heat, nor water to drink. They are very prejudice all the residents in this building are African Americans.Review from Elizabeth W

Paying over $3,000 per month for what was marketed as a luxurious top-floor apartment at ******************** has been nothing short of a terrible experience. Here's a summary of our grievances:Starting from June this year, our daily lives have been relentlessly disrupted by the noise of drills and hammers, commencing as early as 7:00 AM and lasting throughout the day.When we reached out to the manager for a resolution, the only suggestion we received was to pay three months' rent and move out. After that, all communication ceased, even when we expressed a desire to transfer to a more expensive building.Contacting a senior rental specialist led us to the elusive "service team." However, they either failed to respond to our emails or made empty promises of returning calls that were never fulfilled.After numerous attempts, we finally managed to speak with someone claiming to be a superior. She informed us that if the building manager (a junior manager) had made a decision, she couldn't change it and would need to consult her own superiors and the building manager for any updates. When pressed for a timeframe or contact information for these superiors, we were met with refusal. When asking about our transfer, no further response.Despite ***'s boast of a "100% satisfactory guarantee," it is nothing more than a misleading claim. The service team at Mac has proven to be utterly ineffective, leaving us in a constant state of frustration. The managers at Mac consistently avoid tenants with legitimate needs, forcing us to endure the unbearable noise conditions in our apartments.This irresponsible and unresponsive management company has tarnished the reputation of ********************, turning what was once considered a luxury residence into a nightmarish ordeal.Review from John K

Mac Properties continues to disappoint. I have rented with Mac properties multiple times and every time they seem to ignore requests regarding over payment and additional "fees." They have continue to charge our accounts after moving out and not paying the agreed upon refund. It has been months since they have been able to give a specific reason for not refunding us. They continue to disappoint and ignore requests unless its an item that benefits them. This is not a a rental company that I would recommend to anyone moving or living in the ********* area.Review from Hamood R

I have been living with Mac Properties since June 2017 and initially was fine with the service and rent, but now they have gone literally crazy in Hyde Park (Chicago) area and began to increase rent like there is no tomorrow. They also have this policy that you can go down with the rent by switching the unit unless you pay them a months rent as a "fee", also even associated with them for the last 5 years they still charged me a "administrative fee" of $450 when I switched from one unit to another within Hyde Park. They pretty much own Hyde park neighborhood and have the monopoly to do whatever they can. I finally moved to Woodlawn, the owner is an individual and I am paying atleast $500 less than what I was paying Mac with a bigger apartment. So no! I never want to come back to this mess what *** is and would ask you to stay away too if possible.Review from Chevaughn S

To whom it may ******* I am writing to complain of the poor customer service I received from your residential company (MAC Properties) since May 2022 - present. I ve been both ******************* Park worker and resident since 2011 and 2021, I wish not to break ties w/ Mac residential side, but my hands are being forced. A large part of the trust that weve built over the 12month were demolished in 30 days due to multiply experiences with all three departments (resident service account, and leasing) I ve been communicating with unprofessional managers and staff since April 2022 attempting to resolve the definition of noise / or ongoing noise issue with a life support machine, retention in leasing, belittled conversation, confusing payment drop box and lack of follow-up. During my interactions, I constantly felt disrespected and that my mother passing (May 10, 2022) was blinded by protocols that were clearly not need at that time. I honestly don't like that I'm making this review, as I believe there are genuinely good people who work here. Listed on the website (Mac) you might focus on the term values, and I quote its personal were decided to each resident, one universe at a time in quote. Well for me this is the complete opposite you company dehumanizes folks character and destroy people lives financially. I lost my mother, there are no words for my pain. Yet I managed to reach out for assistance regarding a proper transfer to affordable unit for myself and my 95-year-old nana. An email was sent to a leasing manager, by the retention specialist ************ w/ no following up and when I followed up, they the third time is a charm, I was met with too many excuses lack of foundation, broken follow- *** you name it I heard it. Same this weekend walked into the leasing office asked for ***************************, unfortunately I was greeted w/ a argumentative tone and or a rushed conversation, or because she has too many clients,Review from T. Mac properties failed to make any updates to my apartment and refused to give me a rent adjustment due to their failures. Before moving in I was assured that the ceiling that was water damaged would be repaired, that the center island would be repaired, that the flooring that has cracks in it would be repaired, and that the appliances would be maintenances (particularly the refrigerator that was missing shelves, the washer dryer units, and the dishwasher - these are all things that were must haves and also ones that increased rent cost). After moving in (moving from ********* to *******) the ceiling was simply painted over rather than repaired, the flooring was not fixed, the center island was painted over (issue with the base boards separating), and the appliances do not work. After putting in ticket after ticket to have these things cared for the washer/dryer was replaced but shortly after there was a strong gas smell that Mac properties did nothing about for 3 days. When taking the trash out on 4/09/2022 the back door k*** came off in my hand and nearly 3 days later they have not done a single thing to replace or repair it. The dishwasher went out about 2-3 weeks ago and they have not replaced or repaired it. This is a $3060 a month nightmare with no parking that I want out of immediately! I cant wait to leave this trash heap! Seeing that quality of life and safety concerns go unnoticed or cared for is disturb and disrespectful. Gas can kill you. And doors not being able to be locked in ******* is beyond dangerous! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE EVER! DO NOT TREAT YOURSELF WITH DISGRACE! IT IS NOT WORTH IT. I've been a loyal Mac resident since 2018. Similar to other reviewers on here, I will be breaking ties with all Mac-related things after my lease is up.A large part of the trust that we've built over the years together was demolished in the last few months due to a horrible resident services experience with ****.I've been communicating with **** since January 2022, attempting to resolve ongoing noise issues with my next-door neighbor that started back in November 2021.During my interactions, I constantly felt disrespected, belittled, and treated unfairly. I felt my opinion/feelings didn't matter to her, and that she was annoyed and bothered when talking with her (her messages would be riddled with errors in spelling and grammar).She was blindly following protocol that was clearly not working for this case. And failing to recognize that the situation was escalating, **** continued to downplay my ongoing complaints until things reached a boiling point.On their website, one of Mac's values is "It's personal - Were dedicated to each resident, one universe at a time." I felt the complete opposite in my case, and was a dehumanizing experience.After 3 months, I had to escalate my case to a manager (who was helpful and empathetic), and thankfully had the case reassigned.I honestly don't like that I'm making this review, as I believe there are genuinely good people who work here. However, I feel it's right to share my experience for others as a warning.I used to think Mac truly cared about my well-being as a long-time resident and appreciated how it provided good jobs to the Hyde Park community.Now I see them for what they are; a programmed machine that grows like a virus. Avoid this company at all costs.
