I was looking for a new dentist and Balda Dental had high reviews. I made an appointment and provided my insurance info. I went to my appointment and before leaving they demanded payment of $292 because they said they were unsure of who my insurance would pay me or them. I received an estimate in the mail from my dental insurance on some work I was planning to have done. The insurance was only paying a fourth of the total charges. I contacted my dental insurance and asked my portion was so high, the csr informed me that Balda Dental is out of network with my plan. I contacted Balda and asked why I wasn't told upfront that they were out of network with my insurance. The front desk informed me that they don't have any insurance contracts and it is my responsibility to know this. I advised the office person it seems a bit deceptive considering there was nothing from their office that advised of this in advance. I then receive my EOB in the mail and notice they only charged my insurance $285 instead of $292. I contact Balda Dental again and ask why i was charged more than my insurance and I was advised that the ******* was does not get billed to the insurance. I asked if they aren't contracted with the insurance why wouldn't they bill it regardless? The office person would not answer my question.Business response

We did ask the patient to pay that day and the insurance check went to her. When a patient asks us if we are in network with their insurance we always tell them that we are not in network with any insurance, but this patient never did ask us. She even told us that she did not ask. We have hundreds of patients that have insurance that come here because they like our office even though we are not in network. It is not part of our regular protocol to tell a patient that we are out of network if they do not inquire. We do not bill product to insurance because we know it is not covered. Also, we were in the process of trying to explain everything to the patient, but she hung up on us before we had the chance to properly explain everything. We are happy to answer patients' questions, but they have to give us the ability to answer them. We did offer a refund for the product if it was returned to us still sealed, but she never returned it or called us back regarding the refund.Customer response
