Called the shop about possible blown headgasket on my 2017 Jaguar F-pace. Agreed to tow the car to inspect. ***** called me and asked if I added anything to the oil because of color. I told him I added gasket stop leak product. He said most likely it damaged the engine but he has to confirm. The next call I received from ***** informed me that the engine needs to be rebuilt and the discounted cost is $13,000. I told the car is not worth that much and I would have to get rid of it as is. He said he will prepare the bill and call me back. The bill he sent was for $2,280 just to tell me the engine needs to be rebuilt. The ****** dealer in ********** quoted previously $580 for diagnosis. ***** never presented any quote and never informed me with the estimate. I would like refund of the difference between dealer estimate and what I was charged which anounts to $1700.

I am rejecting this response because the business never quoted me the cost to check the engine if it needs rebuilt.  The quote mentioned in their response is related to rebuiing the engine and it was $13,000. I decided not rebuild it since the car is not worth that much.  He did not put the engine back and told me it would cost more if he had to do it.  And I'm not sure what he did to confirm if the engine needs to be rebuilt or not given that Jaguar dealer charges less than $600 to determine that.  To charge $2,400 for that and not to put it back together is outrageous.

All other stuff about car not running, or bringing another car, or keeping the car for extra days to arrange towing is irrelevant.  What does this have to do with performing a service without a signed quote by customer?

I may not get anything back but they need to know what they did is against all acceptable business practices and unprofessional to say the least.

      Sincerely,

      ******** *****

      Mr. ********.

if you look at your phone logs you will see that me and you spoke about your car multiple times, in which we discussed that we got an inop vehicle and you told us to go ahead and perform our diagnostics which I told you it involves disassembling the engine to address the issue which you verbally approved over the phone, then we did take the engine apart which it is a 9+hours and then we spent more time to check what is wrong with it, then I told you it would cost around $13000 to rebuild this engine that's when you said you didn't want to spend that much and you asked us if we can just get it running however so you can sell it, which I told you we don't do this kind of work and everything need to be the right way, you then asked me to put back everything together because you have sold the car to Copart and they will be coming to pickup the car, so we had to spend another 10+ hours to put everything back how it was when we received the car, now It's more than fair for you to pay for the time and diagnostics that you approved for us to perform on your vehicle.  that's what you paid us for.

I am rejecting this response because everything mentioned in the response has nothing to do with the fact that you they did not provide a quote of $2,400 to tell me that the car engine needs to be rebuilt.  Even until the last minute ***** said that he needs to look at the hours to see what the bill will come up to.  He did not know where the charger will be and he never communicated with the charges going to be.  Lastly, I go back to the fact that the dealer only charges $580 to determine if the engine needs to be rebuilt or gasket replaced.  What makes you charge more than the dealer?  Either you don't know what you are doing or you're overcharging and in both cases you did not provide a quote to the customer and did not get approval in writing for the charges. I go to any mechanic and they have me initial by the quote and sign before they perform the services. You did not know what it's going to cost when I told you I cannot pay $13,000 to rebuild the engine.  You did not like the answer and wanted to make me pay one way or another.

You look at your responses to the ****** reviews you said you always have a signed quotes from the customer, do you have one or can prove that you communicated that to me?

      Sincerely,

      ******** *****

Mr. Zakariya You prove the work on the phone and you come to the shop and we show you everything and you agree to take the Engine part. Yes its our mistake. We did not let you sign the paperwork because of good faith of us to you and you agree on the phone we keep going and like I said before you ask us to just throw head gasket to make the car start you retail it and we told you we dont do this kind of work and again you sold the car to Copart and right before you sell it to ****** you ask us to buy it from you and we said we did not buy cars. We just fix them then when the lady from Copart call she asked us if there is any money or a vehicle we said yes you call us and get upset because we told her yes you said just told her no there is no money because I want them to buy the vehicle , then you swear Ive been down you dont have any money to pay us you ask us to give you A week to collect the money because you dont have any money then when that happen immediately you said how much I owe you and I send you email this paperwork and you send us the money No argument, Then you show up at the shop after 10 days to pick up the vehicle and we told you please pick up the car before the 10 days because We dont want to charge your storage again thats a good faith from us, You pay us for removing the engine and check it out and put it back in the car like you want. We check out the *** Yukon for you and we did tell you how much that car will cost you to get it fixed and we did not charge Storage fee for the Yukon as well again a good faith from us and that time you show up, For the *** discuss was the issue and we told you about the Jaquar and explained to you how much that Jaquar will be to get the engine rebuild .

I am rejecting this response because it does not address the real issue.  Yes, I asked if you want to buy the car, what does this have to do with anything? Yes, the lady from copart called you after i paid you 2k and $400 were left and you told her i still owe you... Again, what is does this have to do with the main issue... You said I approved work on the phone, work is different than quote, yes, I wanted to know what is wrong with the car, but you NEVER told me it will cost this much.  Even after I decided not to do the rebuild for 13k, you told me you have not calculated how much it will cost me.  So what did I approve, a blank cheque?  Based on your response, because I told you I want the car checked out, that means I should pay whatever it will cost without having that agreed upfront.  Don't you see how wrong this is?  Had you told me it will be $2400 I would run back to the dealer.

I can't help you if you can't see what's wrong here and you keep talking about the side topics that have nothing to do with the main issue.  You allowed me 10 days for pickup? I allowed you a month to with at your pace... But that's agreed... We are discussing what was not agreed.

      Sincerely,
