On January 27, 2020, I was operated on by *******************************, ******************************************. I had a fusion performed at *******************************. Prior to undergoing the fusion surgery, I made sure to discuss the cost of the procedure, for outpatient surgery, and any accompanying cost. *************************** billing person assured me that my health insurer would cover the entire cost of the surgery and the out-of-pocket payment I made would cover whatever my portion of the surgery. I underwent the surgery, followed up with ************** one time following the surgery and was never contacted by anyone at his office for outstanding bills pertaining to this surgery.I have, however, received monthly bills, pertaining to this surgery, from a Glencor Neuromonitoring LLC, an office located down from *************************** office. The **** indicates it is for the neuromonitoring services provided during surgery. I was not aware of these services being provided and feel certain that I am educated enough to have listened for and heard whether these services would be medically necessary or indicated. No such explanation of services was provided and no authorization was given to provide and **** for said services. As concerning to me is the fact that Glencor Neuromonitoring is under the direction of ************************************, a partner at *************************** practice (ACSN). This seems to be a conflict of interest and questionably legal.

      02/23/2022

We received your letter regarding the complaint submitted on 2/10/22 (ID *********.  Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring was ordered by his surgeon for surgery performed on January 27, 2020.  This is common practice for the type of procedure this individual had, as it provides additional feedback during the procedure through monitoring the functional integrity of the neural structures.  We are a neuromonitoring vendor for the hospital where the procedure was performed, and as such, were called upon to provide services as ordered by the surgeon.

The individual was made aware that neuromonitoring was being provided during his case on multiple occasions. Prior to the date of surgery, he was presented with paperwork from his surgeons office which provides information about intraoperative neuromonitoring.  He signed off on their form acknowledging this information on January 18, 2020.  Our technologist visited him pre-operatively and presented him with a consent form clearly identifying Glencor Neuromonitoring as the provider of the neuromonitoring and explaining the risks, benefits, and financial responsibility.  He signed off on this form on the date of the procedure, January 27, 2020.

Common ownership of an ancillary service is quite common in all industries including healthcare, and is fully legal and within the physicians rights.  Had the individual contacted our office at any point, we would have been happy to work with him on a payment plan or possible adjustments/discounts to his balance.

Despite the fact that he has not paid anything toward his balance over 2 years nor contacted us in an effort to resolve his ****, we do not wish to cause any further distress to him and we will write off the balance as uncollectible and will not report it to the credit bureau.

      Thank you,

      Glencor Neuromonitoring LLC
