I purchased a ******** tortoise on 11/22/22. The owner or employee never provided a receipt or any documentation for the purchase or date of the hatch for the animal. I followed every guideline to take care of the tortoise and provide proper housing. Unfortunately, the tortoise passed away on 12/09/22. I confirmed the death with a local reptile vet. The store employee ***** said there is no policy for the animals once they leave the store and that they can sell me another tortoise for 50% off. I did not receive a receipt with the stated policy. I have the transaction from my bank statement however and pictures of the tortoise from the day it was purchased. I was made aware recently that ******** has a 4-inch law with tortoises that says they cannot be sold under 4 inches in length. These tortoises are about 1-2 inches in length. There are shady practices with the animals at this store and animals can be sold in an underdeveloped or sick state to customers and not given any policies for their purchases.
