I had a consultation with Chicago surgical specialists in the last 2 months. During that consultation I was told I owed a 80$ consult fee and that when I would come In for surgery I would owe 750$ on the date of the surgery. As well as possibly the rest of the cost of the surgery which was around 2,000$. I paid the 80$ consult fee, which I was told was a final cost for that day. I gave the business my dental and medical insurance to be used to create an estimate for surgical costs out of pocket. When I received the estimate back, they claimed that the medical was not going to cover anything or very little, and that the dental would only cover 2 teeth and Id owe an amount of ***** dollars for surgery. This business illegally claimed that they could not process an estimate that DID NOT go through both forms of insurance. However upon further investigation with my insurance providers for both forms of insurance, that was found to be untrue and unjust, my dental insurance would have covered the cost, however they make the claim you need both forms of insurance, in order for them to profit. This business is unfortunately scamming their clients. I have the estimates and proof that they had charged me 80$ upon the consultation date. When I called to argue this point, they said all they could do for me was refund me the amount for the consult that insurance would not cover. Which would have been a refund of 67$ that I never received to date. This business tried to scam me and Im sure has scammed others. I have yet to receive my money back. This business and their money practices needs to be investigated. Not just for me, but for others. For those of us who work paycheck to paycheck. If needed I can gather proof of their refusal to run a second estimate under only dental insurance. Which again, to reiterate has confirmed they would cover the full cost, but which was denied by this business.Business response

When scheduling for sons June 24, 2022 oral surgery was asked for a $750 deposit to cover any costs that *** not be covered by insurance.Insurance covered the full amount of the surgery, so I called the provider in November to request a refund check along with a statement of charges and credits. My address had changed since the surgery, so I provided the updated address to the doctors office when I called to request the statement and refund check. The statement arrived at the updated address within a week, but in early December the provider inexplicably sent the refund check to the old / incorrect address.I sent my adult son to pick up a replacement check. The provider refused to provide a replacement, claiming that they had to wait for the original check to be returned. I called the office to follow up and they refused to accept responsibility for their mistake, again reiterating that they had to wait for the original check to somehow be returned to them - at this point the forwarding order to the new address had expired so for the check to be returned, the new occupant of the address where the check was delivered would have had to explicitly return the envelope to the post office, something for which there was a very low probability of happening.Subsequent phone calls resulted in condescending lectures from staff and the doctor who performed the surgery. They continued to stonewall and make excuses about internal process failures. When my son made a visit to the office over a month after I had originally requested the check, they told him that they would only put a stop payment on the original check and issue a new one IF WE PAID A $35 STOP PAYMENT FEE.This doctor has been sitting on my funds for 7 months now, including the 2 months we have been actively trying to receive a replacement check.I am not going to pay $35 to remedy their incompetence and arrogance. Please help me recover these funds, otherwise I must turn to the courts. Thank you.Business response
