I visited Buffalo Prairie Dental Care on 1/2/24 for a consultation about orthodontic treatment for my 10 year old child. They examined her and we discussed placing a fixed palate spacer in her mouth. I agreed to think about it and return for an exam and x-rays. They gave me a voucher for this second visit for new patients to receive their first exam and x-rays for $1. After this, we returned for a 3rd visit to (supposedly) have the palate spacer installed. My child was terrified of this experience and, up to this point, hadn't spoken to this doctor yet. She asked him what this stuff would do that he is installing in her mouth, at which point he told her, "This moves your teeth. It's a little better than a torture device." He proceeded to install the bands on her teeth. He fumbled around in her mouth attempting to get multiple palate spacer wires to fit. After a bit, he measured her palate width and confirmed that he did not have the appropriate size for her and we would have to come back a 4th time to get it installed, after they ordered a received the correct hardware. I noticed my child making sounds of discomfort and pulling away as he was attempting to fit all these various wires in her mouth. I brushed it off and typical discomfort and came back for a 4th visit to (supposedly) put the palate spacer wire in her mouth. This is where I was informed that the company who makes the hardware is no longer in business and we can either try a smaller wire or remove all the hardware in her mouth, including the bands, and install an adjustable palate spacer. I agree to attempt to use the undersized wire as I had no intentions of having them install an adjustable palate spacer in her mouth. He had very shaky hands. This is the first time that I was positioned in such a way that I could better see what he was doing in her mouth. His hands were shaking very bad. He dropped the hardware into the back of her mouth twice, which gagged her and freaked her out.Business response
