Hired Verns concrete, (who by the way runs his concrete business thru All american auto and hail which should have been a possible red flag) for 20x30 monolithic cement pour. Cement was poured Sept. 28th. City of ******** bldg. **** required fiber in concrete. **** was aware of this because he requested that the city waive the wire mesh and rebar and let him just use fiber in cement mixture. **** poured. Did not add fiber to footer. I have copies of invoices from IMI. Also, had IMI rep to my property to verify this. My complaint also includes the city of ******** because now they are saying " they don't know if it has fiber or not"( even though I showed them receipts). Also, the 4" pad is sticking out 3" past the footer which places my load bearing wall unsupported. The city is passing this failed job. I am getting no help from the city. Why do they have codes and not enforce them? There are also other problems with then cement but these are the 2 structural issues. This leaves me in a bind as to whether to build or not. There is nothing about the job that I am pleased with. The city is negligent for saying one thing is code and then letting it go. If I need fiber in my cement to be code, then this needs removed and repoured. But I would not want Verns concrete to redo the cement because they lack skills for a finished product and I do not trust him.

In response to the complaint,#1- I own numerous businesses and there were no is***s at all during the job, nor did you ask any questions just because we were in the midst of reorganizing and placing other members to our businesses did not warrant any flags. #2- if the ready mix company missed the fiber in footer mix and got it in the slab mix, it did not affect the quality and strength of your footers, I pour fiber in everything i do and that's a known fact, in turn the codes did not even require fiber in the footer. #3- all reps from the ready mix *** the city and our company met with you and specifically reassured you that the job was 100% fine, it did pass inspectors inspection from the city and the quality controllers test from the ready mix co. #3 the footer is underneath the perimeter of the slab and exactly where the weight of a garage wall would be, the footers and slab that were put in place are larger and more than necessary to accomplish your desires and we even offered a warranty of the work above and beyond any warranty any concrete contractor would ever offer. The owners didn't even know where they wanted the garage and left it up to us to place it where we wanted, that is not normal! The ground we dug footers in was stone put in place overs years and years of build up and once we dug it the footers ended up being excessively wider and deeper due to the unstable ground we had to remove to get to desirable subgrade, there was never any is***s until a self proclaimed contractor that knew nothing brought up imaginary statements that he could not back. You paid a partial payment and never paid the rest even though you were provided all necessary info to guarantee the job was more than fine. The only reason i did not *** you yet for payment is due to the fact the lawyer charges were more than your balance and was not worth it. One thing i have learned in business is, no matter how much i give to charities and fund raisers, nor how much extra i do on jobs' I will not be able to keep everyone of my customers happy. Some people just live to fault others in hopes to gain for themselves. I would have taken this project on my own property and built a garage twice the size on the slab provided. At the end of the day i am sorry and saddened this project came to these terms because we are used to 100% satisfactory of our quality, workmanship and product. If there is anything that can be done on the project to change your opinion, feel free to reach out and talk to us. We would love to help change your stance.

      My response

Very little that the contract said is true.
The contractor did not try to make things right.

The city told us that to do the monolithic pour, they required fiber in the footer.  There's no fiber.
Upon looking at the pictures, *****, the city inspector said he was sorry. He said he should have noticed that the footer was incorrect.  He said all he did was look at the depth when he passed it.

The pictures speak for themselves, they can not lie like people do.  The pictures are proof that the footer is not underneath the perimeter wall.  Nothing needs to be said, just look at the pictures.
No warranty was offered.  If it was, show the paperwork.  We were never offered anything.
There were small wood stakes at the 4 corners where we wanted the cement.  The cement is where we wanted it.  Why does the contractor find it necessary to lie about that?
If the contractor wants to make things right, he can come and tear out the cement and ***********.  We will take the $3400 loss of the money we put down up front.  We will never build the building we had designed on a slab of cement that does not have perimeter support.
After this disastrous ordeal, many people have told us that they also, have had problems with this contractor.  The talk is he cuts corners anytime he can.
I just want future customers to be aware.
