Our move from **** to ********** with Bekins, which is now owned by *******, was a nightmare from start to finish. We suffered loss of our belongings plus damage to beloved antique furniture. They packed and shipped items labeled Do not pack and had failed to renew their high rise delivery insurance and pre-hire a smaller truck for delivery into our building, which caused unnecessary delay of delivery. They had been told well in advance that the small truck was necessary. They left a huge crate in the hallway of our retirement community for three days, violating ********** law. We incurred over $5,100 in costs to return, replace, and repair our belongings. That was just the beginning. We then spent 11 1/2months arguing with the adjuster who tried to talk us out of what was clearly due to us. After an exchange of twelve letters, she finally agreed to our full claim on the advice of her supervisor, having caused a great deal of sadness and frustration throughout the process.Review from Kenneth B

I moved from ********** to ********* **************. I contacted A&P Moving who are affiliated with Bekins. On 7 11 23 A&P moving met me at my storage facility in ********** where all of my belongings were stored because I had sold my house on May 1st and moved to *********. I returned to be there when A&P arrived to let them into the storage facility. An agent from A&P estimated the move would cost $14,802. and no more than $16,282. I got three estimates and this was the lowest price. I felt good about the transaction and felt my belongings would be safe with Bekins. A&P moved my belongings to a storage facility where it was kept for a week before Bekins picked it up. I was told they had a system of color coding to keep up with my things. I purchased insurance from them with a $250 deductible. I get a call the day before delivery that I would have to pay $21,887!! I was absolutely floored but what could I do, they had all of my things. They said my things weighed more than they expected. My furniture arrived on July 29th 2023 And the driver had 3 local people helping to unload. It was a very hot humid day in *********. It took several hours to unload. There was no way I could tell if all my boxes were delivered because they were in every room of my new house. some piled on top of others. The driver had me to sign about eleven pages that I had received everything. It took me about a month to unpack everything. That's when I discovered that I had quite a few items that were broken damaged dishes and large statues broken and about six missing boxes. I filed a claim on August 24th and was given in Adjuster by the name of *****************************. I had not heard anything by the end of October, so I called her and she stated a settlement letter was mailed out in September. She said she would mail it again. I received it about a week later, basically stating my claim was being dismissed! This adjuster decided to trust the driver and workes. The customer doesn't matter!!!Review from Judie S.

At origin in ******** I was notified that some of my furniture would not be covered for loss because it was made of particle board. I had no choice but to sign the document with a list of all the furniture or the driver would not take the furniture. I had no choice but to sign the document since I could not leave the furniture in the house! I was also told they could not take my king size mattress because it looked like it had bed bugs. There was no evidence of active bed bugs, just some stains. After making a phone call the driver said it would be OK and he took the mattress, but it caused me a lot of stress. My goods were shipped to storage in *******. I was not notified when my good arrived in *******! It was only after I called the local ******* Bekins office and they told me my goods had arrived several days earlier.I tried to established a firm date for delivery of my goods from storage. This was important because I was in a rental house and had to be out by December 31st. Several weeks out I was told that the last week of December would be no problem because it was slow period. Then 2 weeks out I asked for December 28 but was told by the local agent that she had to contact "corporate". After several days of stalling she finally told me the delivery date would have to be after the new year! It was only after I insisted that I speak to the operations manager that I was given the date of December 28. The whole process caused me considerable stress and I could not relax until my goods actually arrived at my home. The delivery team did no assemble my king **** and my wife and I had to do it.Review from Amy H

I went with Bekins in *********, **, as they were a middle estimate. They moved me out, kept my things in storage for 6 weeks, and moved me in. The move was within state and less than 100 miles. I urge you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Once they had my deposit, that's all they cared about. They sent a bunch of movers that were clearly contracted and several had no moving experience. I did my best to keep an eye on things myself, but it was near impossible to watch them move everything. When items arrive, you MUST be very vigilant about what they are bringing in and the numbers on each item. Do not cross off a number unless you see them carrying it in, and don't let them leave until you have looked at everything. I made a mistake and only went with the 60 cents per pound to reimburse for damaged items, basically due to a misunderstanding with my insurance company, but they will only reimburse you for what is not marked off the check sheet and what you document is damaged BEFORE THEY LEAVE. I was appalled at the damage to my things--solid large wood dresser shredded; ****** dream house smashed beyond recognition; filing cabinet crushed; plastic bins smashed; boxes ripped open and crushed; along with many, many missing/stolen items--pennyboard; snorkel gear; propane tanks; set of expensive kitchen knives; Dyson vacuum; at least a dozen huge plastic bins with clothes/toys. They also cracked all 3 of my solid wood bed frames putting them together. It was awful and I spent over six months fighting with Bekins to get reimbursed. They WILL NOT speak to you; will respond only through mail--not even email or voicemail. It was the worst experience I ever had, and implore you to stay away from this company. After all was said and done, I received a whopping $374 for this disaster for thousands of dollars in missing and damaged items. Had to file a police report for all the missing items, because at least my insurance company covered those items. DISGRACEFUL, DISHONESTReview from Ian S

Bekins isn't the cheapest option but they are easily the worst. I scheduled a full service move and they were slow and sloppy, missing a surprising amount of things in my apartment. As for delivery, they gave me multiple false delivery dates with no explanation as to why the schedule kept slipping. My move should not have been hard, but man they sure did make it that way.Review from Lawrence O

Avoid Bekins at all cost! We moved our household goods five years ago from southern ******** to southern **************. Bekins quoted us one price and we signed the contract for that price. We received a call the next day, stating that, "due to a glitch in his calculator," the price would be $8K more than we had been told. A rep brought ** an updated contract reflecting this higher price. The move itself, including 7 weeks of storage at their facility, resulted in damage or water damage to many, many items. One glass packed in pillows was 1/2 full of water when we unpacked it! My wheeled workbench drawers were also partially full of water, causing most of my tools to rust. My axe and maul simply disappeared. My safe, containing my coin collection, was also wet enough inside to oxidize most of my proof sets and wetting the rest of my coins, causing them to oxidize as well. An antique lady's chair had a leg snapped in half. Two 6' bookcases were damaged beyond use. I am grateful that we packed our own goods, or I am confident more damage would have occurred. After nine previous moves, this was the absolutely worst experience we have had. Steer clear of this company!Review from Marti B

Terrible communication. Mishandling of boxes led to items being totally obliterated. I have moved cross country at least 4 times and am mo novice at packing or moving. Bekins was my worst experience by far. Previously I used PODS. My historic location in ******** did not permit use of PODS so I used my designers recommendation of Bekins *******. Their estimate came in reasonable. Their pick up guys showed up on time. Then it all went south. Things were loaded on a truck and moved to ********** ** two weeks before the agreed upon date. A delivery address had not even been provided to Bekins at the time of loading. So items were trucked to ********** and off loaded. My move at the time of loading was not set in stone at the time of loading and Bekins assured me that if the location changed my charges would be less to GA or SC. Well my location did change and I was charred again for the reload from ********** to GA. Once again I stated do not load the truck until I have a set move in date on new construction. Yet once again I got a call that my items would be delivered the next day. Again a loading that I did not approve nor know of. My home was not ready and the furniture was unloaded into the garage while awaiting occupancy approval. I had to hire yet more people to then carry all items into the home. Upon unpacking at least three boxes that showed damage from the outside, had almost everything inside obliterated. These items had been packed with bubble wrap, and placed carefully in heavy duty boxes. Above standard moving practices, yet they were not just chipped, but smashed into pieces, which must have required severe mishandling! Yes, I had purchased insurance. Which no surprise they have refused to cover any of the items. So why mislead the consumer into thinking they are covered when buying this insurance. I would never recommend using Bekins. Their performance as well as their attitude is dismal. Use PODS instead!
