First merchant was who used to process my credit cards for my business. I bought the business 4 years ago. I myself used them for 3 of the years. I couldn't figure out why I was getting charged 2 times a month for fees. I had to pay a ****** cancelation fee to stop using them. Long story short, they were still charging me after I had paid the cancelation fee. Come to find out they were illegally withdrawing money out of my bank account. They were charging me for the old owners merchant services that she didn't have anymore. When we called to transfer everything they just connected her account as well as mine to my bank account. When I tried calling about this they told me I had to get the money from the old owner. How is that? She didn't connect my bank account to her account. It is a joke. I am not getting anywhere. So I have to lawyer up. What they were doing was illegalReview from Kelsey L

Worst bank ever, they keep closing locations and I keep having to go farther out. Then when you get an overdraft they continue to pile money on and you cant even get it down. I cant wait to close this account.First Merchants Bank Response

Their banking app does not show your transactions for days afterwards and after looking at my account I think everything is fine. Then bam there are all my transactions that went through all at once and an overdraft fee for each one. My banking at huntings is much more accurate and I can easily keep track. It seems like first merchant is doing this on purpose to get fees from me. Im sure Im not the only one.First Merchants Bank Response

Extremely disappointed! I have been with this Bank since I was a child when it started out as ****** bank then changed to IAB and now First Merchants. I recently refinanced my HELOC loan and I specifically asked about having a higher payment because I wanted to make sure I was paying on the principal and not just the interest. ****** who worked with me said "yeah that's understandable." However I got my first statement and all the money I am paying towards my loan is going only toward interest and when I spoke to the bank about it they said the only way to pay on my principal is to physically go into the bank and tell the teller to put the money towards principal. There should be a way to set up an automatic payment that pays towards the principal like it used to be. Why is First Merchants taking a step backwards? This tells me your bank no longer cares about its customers and doesn't want their customers to pay off their loans you just want them to be in debt to you. After being with this bank for over 30 years I will be looking for another oneFirst Merchants Bank Response

The absolute worst bank I have ever delt with, horrible outdated customer services and operates ***** years behind other banks in the communication and support for their customers. I used to love working with First merchants since it was Ameriana. A couple years ago, they changed their web site. Making it more difficult to maneuver it. I never did get used it and they changed it again recently. Why? Now today, there is no "bill pay" tab on the site. I cant pay bills. I called They are working on it. How can I trust this financial instituting with all the changes and not being able to pay pills? She tells me to check it every hour. How about a call, text or email?First Merchants Bank Response

Recently I had my bank account compromised. I met with ******* at the ************** branch. She was absolutely wonderful. She spent quality time with me with no ******* at all. She even called a vendor and had charges removed for me. She calmed my anxiousness about the experience and led me through the process of a new account. What a good experience this was. I feel FMB takes advantage of teenagers who are trying to get started with there first bank account. Yes my son did make a mistake and over withdrew his account by .50 cents and then again with $3.02 when i clearly asked that nothing should be approved if he didn't have the funds. Since this was a re occuring charge by Apple the paid it and then started charging him $8.00 a day penalty and notifying me with snail mail instead of a courtesy call. His mistake lead to ***** dollars in penalty for a kid with a part-time job a Wendys. I complained and expressed my disagreement but tellers did not seem to care.First Merchants Bank Response

*********************************** lied to our family over and over and the story is long but to make it as short as possible the bottom line is they took 475 for an appraisal on a house and subsequent mortgage that they were never going to approve, but i was harassed for the that fee 5 emails in 2 days requesting the money when i was never even approved for the loan It was a week before closing and inspections were done cost 400 ernst money was given.. After all was said and done my ************ and dreams were crushed by this bank and they cost us 900 we would never get back ..********************* said she would try to get me refunded because it was obviously not out fault the bank didn't do they work and lied. but they kept the money so it killed my credit score 40 points and took money from my children at christmas time all because they lied and cheated us!they new on friday they were not going to above me and took the money on the following Monday for a appraisal and i never even received the report or a refund fraud fraud fraudFirst Merchants Bank Response

Im a member of this bank and I concur with what has been said so far I used to be a member of *************Trust. I went to deposit my Social Security check at the **** it took 3 BUSINESS DAYS(!!!) to process through the *** thats a couple feet from their office it seems that had I gone in to deposit my check the next day, they would have done it right there I needed that money to buy food for my 5 children and then, w/o telling me first to give me the option to back out, they charged my acct. $24.99 to run a credit report! Granted, I was looking into refinancing my house, but at least tell me what youre gonna do before you do it! What if I dont want that? Youre my BANK for ***** Sake!! Youre supposed to be such a great company, that everyone else would want to do business with you, dont you get that? Why do you stink so badly? You can make the right decision, you just choose not to I should probably stop being a customer too maybe youll treat me better.First Merchants Bank Response
