      I have been raising cattle for apx. 40 years and it seems when I sell cattle to this company they tend to cheat me on the prices they get for me. I have no way of proving this exists except by the fact that I have talked to other farmers and they have had the same experience too. I just sold three head thru them and they gave me only five cents per pound for a cow I took to them which should of been at least sixty five cents per pound. This market posts the prices they sell the cattle for but for some reason they do not post these five cent prices. I personally think that if they did then the people would know how they cheat people. So they leave out certain prices/don't list what the cattle brings so people wont know what they actually give. I think this is very deceitful and crooked. So I called them to find out why and they're answer was that if a cow weighs less than a certain weight that they consider it condemned and therefore they can justify and basically steal the cows they want.

      Business response

      12/29/2022

      To Whom It May Concern;

      I am responding to complaint ********* issued on 12/16/22 by **** *****.  Attached is a copy of his check that corresponds to his complaint. We are a livestock marketing facility which holds a weekly auction on each Tuesday. We have been in business at this location for over 21 years and our parent company has over 47 markets in several different states. This is the first time anyone has ever been spiteful enough to turn in a complaint. As previously mentioned we are a livestock auction facility. We accept bids until the bid ends. The buyer with the highest bid owns the animal. The first animal on the list was a feeder animal with a bad eye. Seeing it has a defect it is not going to bring top dollar. The second animal which Mr. ***** mentions is a cow which weighs 815. This is very small for a kill animal. Animals must weigh at least 750 pounds for the packer to kill and process. Animals are trucked to kill plants in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania or elsewhere. You can figure a 2%-4% shrink during transport. This puts the animal dangerously close to that limit. If an animal does not meet the pound requirement it is euthanized before it even enters the facility. All of this information I explained to Mr. *****. He has done business with other United Producer markets with no complaint. I also explained to Mr. ***** ( he called the day before he placed this complaint which he was very rude) that he is always welcome to stay and refuse to sell his animals if the bid is not satisfactory. Our scales are tested as often as P & S requires and that information is posted in visible sight to anyone who wishes to inquire. As to his complaint with our market reporting we only report animals which are considered good marketable animals if we reported animals that were substandard or defective it would be hard to determine market value. So our market report shows animal in each weight range that are in good marketable condition. We have animals that are brought into the market that do not have a value and to state your animal may be worth 0-175.00 p/100# is not a true representation on what a 400# feeder will bring. In conclusion, I have spoke with Mr. ***** and am very sorry that he is disappointed in the prices his animals brought in auction but his animals were not healthy or prime animals. This is no reflection on our business. We strive to provide an outlet for producers to market their animals at a fair price but we no way can force buyers to pay premium prices for substandard animals. As with any auction setting the highest bid wins. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

      Thank You
