Between April 2022 and July 2022, I had my boat in at KY Boat Life for repair. After three attempts they were unable to repair the boat. The boat still does not run properly. I will have to have another repair facility repair the boat. Repair costs were $828.51. Ky Boat Life refuses to issue a refund.Business response

Rebuttal to complaint ID #********
Mr. ********** originally brought his boat in for repair in March of 2022. We found fuel lines deteriorated and because of this the fuel pump and carburetors were clogged. We fixed his boat by installing three new carburetor kits, one new fuel pump kit, and a four foot section of new fuel line including a primer bulb. Once those items were installed we flushed his entire fuel system with our fuel to ensure no more debris remained in the lines and adjusted the carburetors to ensure the boat was running properly. We also changed the oil in his lower unit. When the boat was finished and picked up on 4/15/2022 it was running great and we also included a lanyard for the safety switch at no extra charge.
About two weeks after Mr. ********** picked his boat up he called the shop complaining that it would not run. We apologized and asked him to bring his boat up so we could make it right. When he brought his boat up for the second time we found that all of the carburetors that were just adjusted correctly were somehow all out of adjustment again. After several hours spent having to readjust them again in our test tank we had his boat running properly. We called him, explained that we don't know how the adjustment screws could have gotten as far out of adjustment as they were on their own, but that we took care of the problem. We apologized again on our behalf and told Mr. ********** he could pick his boat up.
A few more weeks passed and it is now in the later half of June when Mr. ********** calls stating that his boat is again not running correctly. I apologize and assured him that he can bring his boat back and that I personally will be working on it and that I will make sure everything is correct before it leaves my shop. He brings his boat back. I leave to go on vacation the first week in July. I include this in my rebuttal because it was during this week Mr. ********** came in person to get an update on his boat, when my employee told him I was out of town, he proceeded to cuss out my employee because I didn't get his boat completed before I left. I get back to work second week of July and immediately start looking at Mr. *********** boat. Once again it is a repeat of what happened last time he said it wasn't running, all of his carburetors were somehow back out of adjustment. Again hours spent in the test tank readjusting the carburetors to where they should be. Not wanting to take any chances that it could/would come out of adjustment on their own I took Mr. *********** boat to the lake to ensure there would be no problems. When I got to the lake, carburetors were still adjusted to exactly where they should be and the boat again runs great. No issues. I did not charge Mr. ********** for the extra work or for my usual fee of taking a boat to the lake because of the issues he was having. Simply called him, and told him he could pick his boat up, that it is running great and that I was the one to personally work on it.
Then I get a call shortly after he has had his boat back in his possession complaining that it is not running correctly and demands I close my business for the day to come to him and fix it. I told him that is not possible but he is more than welcome to bring it to me and I will again spend my time adjusting the carburetors free of charge to him. That wasn't good enough. He then demanded a full refund. I told him that I couldn't do that because of the parts installed on his boat but that I would be willing to give him a partial refund by refunding him the labor charges. Still not good enough. He proceeded to threaten me that if I didn't grant him a full refund that he would take the necessary steps to get his money back in full at which point I disconnected the phone call.
As the business owner I believe I have done my due diligence to please Mr. **********. Every time his boat has left my shop it has been running beautifully. The only way a carburetor screw can be adjusted is with a person holding a screwdriver. I have spent well over the four and half hours labor that Mr. ********** was charged adjusting and readjusting the carburetors that did not come out of adjustment on their own. I believe the partial refund on my labor charges was more than fair and he is simply a patron that will not be satisfied.
