First off, this company built my fence 4 feet into my neighbors property. 2 yrs later after all my landscaping was in, I had to have my fence moved off their property and damaged all my landscaping on that side of my house. Who does that? Who doesn’t survey a property before putting up a fence. Of course the owner blamed me for telling them to build it there. I wasn’t even home when the fence was installed. This Company built my fence with non/galvanized nails (I sent him pictures of a ton of rusted nails that broke) and sub par wood material of which ALL nails rusted and most boards warped or popped off the frame within 2.5 years. Fence was stained with an expensive Sherwin Williams Solid stain within 6 months. I sent pictures of nails and boards to the owner and he basically said, he’s not responsible and tried to blame me for not staining my fence in time and whatever else he could said to blame his customer for. POOR, POOR attitude and rude. This is the 6th fence I’ve had put up. All of my previous fences at my homes are still standing. This fence had to be completely replaced in 2022 after just 3 years. $3600 to replace and another $1200 to restrain it. Roark fencing said he uses double dipped gal anime’s nails. There were NOT double dipped nails as I brought them in to Home Depot and Lowe’s to their construction bench and both managers said they were not galvanized nails. This owner stands behind nothing he does and people need to know what they’re getting when they look at this company. He lies, blames customer instead of taking ownership of what was clearly poor material, poor craftsmanship and poor, POOR Customer Service.Business response

This is a case you can not make everyone happy, We do not or never have put a fence where Roark fencing wants to install them, we only use the property pins if available, if not we recommend a survey, if they do not want to pay we will install at the homeowners discretion. Have do business this way since 1975, we cannot control weather or what wood does in the weather, everything we have ever installed has been treated, you cannot purchase untreated wood for fencing at lowes or home depot, as far as the nails, we have used double dipped galvanized nails since 2004, purchased from same company since that time. We have tried to help this lady, wind and storms, the sun and rain all take its toll, wood fences do require maintenance, it is wood out in the weather 24-7 ,365 days a year.

I am rejecting this response because: Please ask Roark fencing to send you the pictures of the fence and pile of rusted and broken nails that they used to put the fence up. I sent him pictures of the extremely warped boards 75% of them! As far as the placement of the fence, I NEVER instructed them as to how far over to place the fence. This is their responsibility to survey and place. The only question I asked is for them to put gates on both sides off the home. Above all things, I NEVER received a contract to sign and I never received any paperwork. Their sales person never talked property line. I assumed they knew what they were doing. Even the replacement boards they put up after relocating the fence, warped within one year, so badly that my neighbor asked me to fix it because nails were sticking out and boards were pulled completely off the frame into their yard. A $3000 “treated” wood fence that is stained with Super Deck solid exterior stain within 6 mos should never warp. I’d accept a board or two warping absolutely, but this was extreme damage and the company that put my replacement deck up will attest to the extremely poor wood and inferior nails used. I don’t care how many years this man tells us he’s been buying galvanized nails. The nails used on my fence were not galvanized and that is what I know. Roark needs to take responsibility for this terribly unprofessional job. I’d be happy if he split the cost and refund me half. This is not the way a “business owner” should treat anyone. I am a 60 year old woman who is not some con person and I would have never pursued this unless I was told to do it by Lowe’s and the fence company that ended up removing and putting up the new fence.
Sincerely,

Have not spoken to this woman, in over a year, my guess is she had some storm damage from the recent wind storm, and is looking for help with the repairs, she says she has a new fence, so I have no idea she would be in contact with me, me moved her fence, for free and replaced a few boards, pre pandemic. Now 3 or 4 years later looking for refund or money, when she has a new fence, we have been in business since 1975, average over 650 new fence installs a year, completed 853 new installs last year, If we done anything wrong, bbb would be filled up with complaints, we use the same materials have for years, only use double dipped galvanized nails, people at lowes and home depot are service people, not nail experts, hopefully she enjoys her new fence and has better luck with the company she used, remember wood fences are not maintenance free. Cannot make everyone happy sorry.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:she (As in “me” made it perfectly clear to Mr Roark that I would be pursuing this I apologize for the delay as I went thru ****** ****** and dealt with what was more important at the time This fence was replaced last Spring Has NOTHING to do with any wind damage and as a matter of fact, prior to my fence having to be replaced, there had been no severe damage weather that would do any damage to a fence. As mentioned, I’ve owned 6 homes and have had 6 fences put up. None of these fences had any issues and one wasn’t even stained and is still in fine shape. This was entirely (100%) due to poor material and poor labor there were several nails gunned in that attached to nothing to hold the fence board in place I am talking about rotted boards that were stained completely The wood was like cardboard. My fence guy that replaced this fence AND my neighbors fence company owner (ALL DECKED OUT) told me that this was put up with inferior material He offered to replace my fence but he ended up getting very I’ll and could not do it How many more people do I need testimony from to warrant this claim It was a complete inferior job from start to finish. Well, I sure the heck hope Roark would come out and move my fence back into my property since they messed up on the initial install They (Roark) did not pay for the damage to my landscaping, the stain I bought to restrain the boards replaced (which didn’t even last a year before they warped) and labor involved This was a total poor install from start to finish. I’m doing what is right and as a “professional” building fences since whenever, Roark should do the right thing and refund me If I have to go to court, I will. I’ve put out Google and Yelp reviews to warn people of this business Mr Roark, please do the right thing!
Sincerely,
