      **** ***** posted an “11 year old mule” for sale on her website. She was describes as gentle with no vices. Pictures looked good and **** seemed honest and nice. This mule was for a 100% disabled veteran for trail riding. We are six hours away so called and wanted to be sure the mule had no issues. **** assured us that she did not. We wanted to put down a deposit and come to see her but were told she was likely to sell by that night and a wire transfer of full amount was the only way we could have her. I guess we were naive to trust this person but we did. Upon arrival I questioned her about the age and she claimed once again that the mule was 11 and her vet aged the mule. I noticed issues with her eye as she was squinty and parts of the eyelid was missing. She brushed it off. Then I asked about a deformed hoof and she had no response and sprayed something on it. Most of all the mule is so very skinny and missing hair in the girth area and all over. It’s so disheartening to know that this person saddled this mule and rode her in water with these skin conditions and weight issues. The mule is in such poor condition her eyes are sunken in as she has no body fat. We immediately had the vet out to help us with a rehab plan for her. She is 15-18 years old. She is pitiful and I hope we can help save her life. Is so despicable to know that someone who claims to be a horsewoman would do such a disservice to an equine as well as a disabled veteran. I want others to be aware of this and be certain to never take this business at their word because their word means nothing. Purchase was on 01/31/2024 and pickup was 03/03/2024

      Attached are photos taken on 1/30/2024.  The mule was picked up 2/03/2024 not 03/03/24 as stated.  This mule was not thin as can be seen in the pictures.  He was more than welcome to any type of pre-purchase health exam that he would have wanted to have.  I stated on the phone if he didn't want the mule I had someone else that did.  He then called back, purchased the mule sight unseen over the phone and wired the money.  He was not forced to buy the mule in any way.  This mule is quiet and gentle.  I also told him she had some missing hair on her face that was growing back before he purchased the mule.  He was fine with that.  Here is the video of the mule that was filmed on 1/30/2024.  The mule had a brand new Coggins completed as well which was given to him at time of pickup.   *************************************************

      I am rejecting this response because:

      It appears the seller is missing the point of the complaint. The mule had an eye injury at some time that resulted in the loss of a substantial portion of her upper eyelid, preventing her from ever growing eye lashes as well as causing continuous irritation to her. She has a hoof condition which the long term impacts concerning hoof health are unknown at this time. There are two options for the seller:
      A. They were unaware, raising concern to their ability to judge a horses health as the conditions above are obvious, photos attached. 
      B. They were aware, were asked about health and specifically hoof health, and decided not to disclose this information . 
      Either option should serve as caution to anyone considering buying or even traveling to view equines from this seller. 
      Had the seller provided this information, it would have certainly factored in to our decision to buy as we did. The fact this seller does not see that is a testament to their trustworthiness for future buyers.  You do not need a veterinarian to see these issues therefore they are things that should be disclosed before someone drives 6 hours. The mule is very skinny and was riddled with bot larvae. Our vet made a farm call the day after and can confirm all details provided. I can provide pictures of this as well.  
      To all potential buyers, please note that the seller did not actually address any portion of the complaint: inaccurate aging, eye injury, hoof condition, girth area, not disclosing all pertinent information, etc. The sellers position appears to be “you should not buy from me without a PPE”.

      I recently purchased a horse from H&R Horses. I was told the horse was a well broke, experienced trail horse, 11 years of age, with NO vices. I paid $8,200 for this horse, which was one of the most expensive horses H&R was offering for sale at the time. I was very clear with the owner, ***** that I am an older rider and needed a safe, sane, well mannered, non-spooky horse, as I have had a bad experience in the past with dishonest sellers. Before I went ahead with the purchase I told **** that I hoped the horse was as advertised, and she told me that if he wasn't I should bring him back. I gave the horse several days to settle in and spent time getting to know him. His hooves were very overgrown and he had been badly shod in the past, so I called my farrier out to give him a trim. He was very difficult to deal with; even attempting to kick her twice. She was very reluctant to continue to work on him. The horse was advertised as a “2 out of 10” for temperament, “husband safe” and would be delivered “sound with no vices.” Kicking a farrier is a vice, not wanting to be saddled is a vice. Selling a rodeo/bucking horse to an unsuspecting older person is irresponsible, dangerous, and frankly potentially criminal. I also experienced some behavioral issues when tacking him up, where he was very reactive to the cinch. In addition, while working him in the round pen, he was quite spooky. I contacted **** and told her I wanted to return the horse as I consider kicking a farrier, not standing for the mounting block, and rearing back when being saddled to be vices. I also have a strong suspicion that the horse has hoof and back issues and may well be in pain, which does not qualify as "sound." **** is now refusing to take the horse back, even though I was prepared to pay the additional expense to ship him back to her. She is now reneging on her verbal commitment of saying I could bring him back if he didn't work out. I have since discovered that **** and her husband, ***** *****, buy horses from kill pens and then market and sell them to unsuspecting members of the public. **** is now refusing to answer my texts and emails. She is an extremely rude individual who has lied in the past about the horses she sells. It's businesses like this that give the horse industry a well deserved bad name.

      This lady purchased a horse from me over the phone sight unseen.   She was provided this video as well as many additional photos.  She had a person come out and ride the horse for her and they were able to do whatever they wanted to with it while they were here.  They got along fine with the horse and they called her.  She then paid for the horse.  I told her she would need to arrange shipping and she didn't have anyone so we provided her with shippers numbers.   Over 2 weeks went by and she never got in touch with anyone to pick up the horse.  Almost a month went by before she arranged shipping after I had to call her.  We kept the horse for free and did not charge her any board.  Any farrier care or additional training was not asked for.  She left the horse here for over a month after purchasing it which was not part of the agreement.  She was never offered her money back.  This lady did not provide any funds to have his shoes reset or his feet trimmed.  She was very negligent and owes us for the 30 days he was here that she owned him and never paid any money for the alfalfa hay, grain, and care he received.

      Like the other complaints these people are liars and misrepresented the horse I purchased. I am a retired senior on fixed income wanting to purchase a safe driving horse for me and my grandson to enjoy. They advertised the horse to be 14 years old, sound and healthy. and I specifically asked if horse had any issues and was told no. I paid for horse and paid for shipping to Texas. I love the horse, everything I ever wanted and saved money for. When horse arrived he just didn’t seem right. Thought it might be from the king trip on trailer but didn’t get better. Now I am out $8500 for horse, $500 for shipping, numerous vet bills and expensive medication. According to my vet horse is 20 or 21 years old. Not 14 as advertised and horse is suffering from COPD and Cushings disease. Horse is out to pasture to live what remaining life he has as stress free as possible. They flat out lied and misrepresented the horse.

      There was no intentional misrepresentation of this horse.  We buy and sell horses and don't have many of them for extended periods of time.  When we had him we made this video, ******************************************* and he was also used in a funeral to haul a casket off to the cemetery.   They were more than welcome to get any type of pre-purchase exam they wanted to before the purchase.  I also talked to this man and offered him to come and get a different horse and that we would trade him out for another draft horse.  He didn't seem to want to do that.
