On April 12, I paid a 50% deposit by check in the amount of $7375.00 to Brothers General Contracting to remove and replace my driveway, front walk, and to pour a small concrete pad and build a wooden enclosure on the side of my garage. I was to pay the remaining balance upon completion. On that day I was told I’d hear from them the next day with a start date. On April 17th I contacted them because I’d heard nothing back. On Aril 18th, I was told the date would be finalized “probably” that day, and that they would begin “one day next week.” I heard nothing back, so on April 26, I reached out and was told to expect them at my house Monday morning at 8 am, which would have been May 1st. No one showed up and no one called me. I reached out again and was told their plan was to have someone to my house that week to start the work. I said that would be fine but to please keep me informed. The next morning I received a text that due to weather they would not be coming, and that I could expect them the “latter part of the week” or “worst case scenario, Monday.” On May 7th they texted and told me they would not be there Monday because of weather, but that they were preparing for possibly Tuesday. On May 13th, after not hearing anything from them since the May 7th text, I reached out and said I was not comfortable with how things were going and would just like to get my deposit refunded. I was told it would be delivered to me Monday. Monday was a no show, so I reached out and was told there was a week to 10 day hold by their bank, and that my money wasn’t available to them yet- it would be Monday of the following week before they could refund it. On Wednesday May 17th, I demanded my money be delivered immediately. I was told again that the bank wouldn’t give them access to the money, and that it would be 2 weeks before it was available. On June 1st, after having heard nothing, I demanded my money be returned and I’ve heard nothing back. All communication has been by text.
