After discussing the rebuild of my deck with an extension, ***** assured me he could do the job, so I hired him. I paid him throughout the first 4 months via Venmo ($14,500). After the last payment, his appearance dwindled to nothing (project unfinished). After repeated attempts to have him finish, I contacted other contractors for bids on completing the job, many of whom would not touch it due to the existing poor workmanship. I decided to have an inspection to determine the condition of the work (report attached), which "revealed numerous and significant deficiencies in the deck's construction. These issues deviate from basic construction best practices and pose considerable safety risks. The inspection identified multiple safety violations, ranging from improper use of materials and hardware to disregarding building codes and regulations governing deck construction. The overall workmanship is substandard, suggesting a profound lack of understanding or concern for structural integrity and safety." The report also indicated: "In light of these findings, the inspector's professional opinion is that the deck is not safe for use in its current state and will likely require complete removal and reconstruction. While some materials might be reusable, only a portion would meet the safe and effective reapplication guidelines." It was at this point I discovered Jamie's business is not only "inactive" with the Secretary of State, but it's also in bad standing and he does not carry insurance. I am now faced with a $16,000 expense to tear out this substandard, unsafe work performed by ***** and have it rebuilt. I paid ***** all that I had budgeted, and he should be held liable for refunding me my money (or pay for the repairs) since the deck he built has been deemed unsafe - Negligent and unqualified for the job, leaving my family at risk. I have attached the Venmo payment transactions, but this does not include the direct purchases I made of materials (in excess of $13,000)
