I am hurt and upset. I have had the same vet for over 15 years. I needed to switch to one in mt Washington because I didn’t want to drive all the way to the east end of Louisville so I tried out this vet that had I know. Some things that transpired last year I would not have done. All I know for sure is that they were trying to get blood from my cat and my cat had a cardiac episode. Then they gave her two shots one being oasis and one being an antibiotic. They found nothing wrong that needed either. Then they do an X-ray which again was not needed. So I get a bill for over three hundred dollars that was supposed to be $35. I do not trust these people as they have many negative things written about them on google. I am worried my cat will not make it through the night. She has been to vet and also to get haircuts many times and has never hidden from me and wouldn’t let me touch her. I am scared.Johnsen Veterinary Services, Inc. Response

Adele is a Persian Himalayan cat that came in for an exam because the owner told me she doesn't seem to be acting right. The owner was concerned also because this cat's brother died from heart failure and a saddle thrombus at the age of 5. The cat presented normally. Good body condition, no fever or signs of respiratory illness. Eating and drinking per Owner, No vomiting or diarrhea noted. Abdomen palpation was normal and so was auscultation of her heart and lungs. No congestion in lungs nor a heart murmur was noted We discussed due to the cat being a senior that It would be a good idea to get bloodwork. We draw blood in our treatment area which is directly outside of our exam room. My technician held the cat's head and front legs and I went to draw the blood. The cat started stressing and fighting the restraint. We let her take a second to calm down and tried again and got 1 ml of blood. The cat screamed out and went limp for a minute. Still conscious but started open mouth breathing. At this point I was only able to get 1 ml of blood and elected not to try again to get the other ml of blood needed. I immediately informed the owner of what happened and had the exam room door open so she could see her cat. I told her that was a concern of mine that the cat collapsed and i told her I would like to do an x-ray to check for the size of the heart and whether there was fluid present in the lungs. I found mild thorax effusion and an enlarged atria on x-ray. I recommended that she take the cat to the cardiologist for an ultrasound to check for heart disease since the brother died from it. Cardiac disease in cats can be very insidious. I explained this to her and I gave the cat an injection of furosemide to help eliminate fluid and also a penicillin injection to cover any underlying subclinical respiratory infection. Two hours later a review came through saying "the huge vet per all her weight on my cat and caused her to breathe like that ." This did not happen in any way and I take offense at a client accusing me of abusing her animal when she didn't see the cat being restrained or how we do that nor did she ever open the exam room door and see for herself since she thought I was sitting on her cat. The owner was crying the entire time telling me that she also has heart failure and seemed very upset and distrought throughout the entire appointment. At no point did she mention being upset with me. She asked me if this happened again should she call me and I told her I would call the cardiologist right away and not wait.Review from Kelsy W

Only leaving one star because I had to. This place is a disgrace and treats animals horrible. A friend of mine took their dog in for a couple of different things and the vet tech was using very nasty language towards the dog, cussing at him, calling him names, and all in front of the veterinarian who was just as nasty as the tech. They spoke loudly enough for the owner to hear through the walls and were extremely cruel and unkind to the dog. When she got him back both of his eyes were bloodshot from being so stressed and God knows what else. Do NOT take your pets here. Not to mention they are way over priced. Elk Creek Animal Hospital is right up the road and does an amazing job….. plus they are compassionate towards animals. (As you would expect)Johnsen Veterinary Services, Inc. Response

I would like to respond to this review by first saying when I walked into the exam room Diesel the Lab (58 lb) was jumping up on me multiple times and never did the owner tell the dog no. He was scratching my arms and continued to jump on me. I took the dog in the treatment area to clean his ears. He was difficult to start but then he settled down nicely and let me clean and treat his ears. I expressed his anal glands which were extremely full and was dripping on the table so my technician who is brand new commented on ho much he stinks which the owner overheard. We put him on his side to trim his nails and he started flailing and biting the technician's hand. She yelled out "He bit me! Stupid dog!) " and the owner heard that. I went back in the room and told the owner I need to lightly sedate him so I can trim his excessively long nails that were curling to the side when he walked because of their length. She said "they use a peanut butter lick pad to distract him." I told her I don't do that and I prefer to use light sedation. She agreed and I continued to give him a dose of ace promazine IV and trim his nails. At NO point was this dog ever abused. Yes my brand new technician screamed at him because she got bit and it scared her. I am not condoning that behavior but it is a normal human response. Later that evening I proceeded to get multiple 1 star review alerts where this client slandered my name all over the Mt. Washington Community page saying I am "evil and sadistic and abuse and kill animals." Six more people joined in and posted 1 star reviews about me although they are not clients here. They are continuing to bully me on line and spread lies about me and my staff. I have no problems admitting my mistakes and will always be the first to apologize but I did nothing wrong in the way I handled this dog. If the owner was so concerned about out our horrible abuse she could have opened the door and said something or seen what was actually happening. Instead she assumed the wrong thing and then spread nasty lies about me all over the internet.Review from Beth A.

Where to begin...Dr Pam Johnsen, can't say enough of how wonderful her and her staff are. By far the best veterinarian I have ever had. She's very knowledgeable and professional. But, I can't stress enough on her and her staff's kindness. I know that all of my pets are in the best of hands. Dr Pam is always available to answer my questions and worries even after hours. That goes above and beyond what I love about this business. Simply amazing! I recommend this wonderful and compassionate lady to anyone who's looking for a veterinarian that is topnotch.
