November 13, 2017 I purchased a 2017 Chevrolet pickup. This vehicle has a 36 month factory warranty. I financed the vehicle. During the finalizing process the dealer offered an EXTENDED WARRANTY of 4 additional years provided by Ally Insurance. I paid $1211 for this coverage. In November 2021 I traded this vehicle in for a new vehicle. I contacted the dealer I purchased the 2017 Chevrolet from. That dealer gave me a list of documents to provide to claim remaining unused EXTENDED WARRANTY value. At this point in time, I had owned the vehicle 48 months, the factory vehicle warranty was 36 months. I concluded the 4th year of ownership under the protection of the EXTENDED WARRANTY. No warranty claims were filed during the 48 months of ownership to ALLY Insurance. On December 10, 2021 I received a check from ALLY Insurance for $477.63. I called ALLY Insurance to explain the check amount. The representative of ALLY Insurance provided this explanation. Having owned the vehicle 48 months there remained ****% of the warranty value, or $527.63 less a cancellation fee of $50 equals the check amount of $477.63. I commented to the representative that ALLY Insurance should return warranty value for the first 36 months of ownership as well because the vehicle is covered by the factory warranty. The representative agreed that ALLY Insurance would not have to pay ANY warranty claims during those first 36 months BUT that is how the coverage plans are written.I believe I am owed 36 months of EXTENDED WARRANTY value for years 5, 6, and 7 which is 75% of the $1211 I paid in 2017 for this coverage or $908.25. Also, keep in mind, ALLY Insurance not only did not pay any claim during that 48 month time period of ownership, but they had my money for 4 years accumulating interest value which I am not demanding at this time.
